With retirement (read: pivot) fast approaching, I feel like I've been the chief beneficiaries of the many students, faculty, administration, guest artists, etc., etc. But it so gratifying that it goes both ways. My friend and former student Eric Rubio writes of our mutuality, collaboration and friendship. As a result, I feel equipped to "graduate" finally, with the knowledge that there are people like Eric cheering me on and to be available when I need them. Thank you, Eric Rubio.
In Honor of Tony Payne — Eric J. Rubio
I’m so grateful to have known Tony for the better part of two decades. I learned so much under his leadership and mentorship – many lessons that still influence my work today on nearly a weekly basis.

As my dear friend Gerry Meyers said, "The future has come so quickly, Tony." I am honored to be honored along with these distinguished music colleagues-- Kathy Kastner, Jerry Blackstone, Lee Joiner, Tom Hueber, Paula Cisar, as we close one chapter and open another. It's been a tremendous honor to serve this great institution for the past 41 years.

HEAR TENOR JAMES LEY SATURDAY NIGHT ON THE MESSIAH PROJECT LIVESTREAM or REMOTE SEATING
“Ley was most memorable as he sang ‘Dalla sua pace.’ His voice was projected with ease that allowed it to blossom into an array of beautiful overtones.”
