🐢 Happy World Turtle Day! 🐢
Painted turtles are one of the most common turtles found at Lincoln Marsh and are easy to recognize by their colorful markings and sunny basking spots along the water. Did you know the painted turtle is also the official state reptile of Illinois? These turtles spend much of their time warming up in the sun, which helps regulate their body temperature and gives them energy to search for food. Next time you visit the marsh, keep an eye on logs and shorelines to see if you can spot one soaking up the sunshine.
