Really excited about this!
The Right To Read documentary, produced by LeVar Burton, is about the reading crisis in America. Why is this story important to a person with dyslexia? Part of this story shows how the brain learns to read, and that's the same for everyone. Students with dyslexia may need more exposure or other accommodations, but ALL people learn to read through systematic, explicit instruction. This story is about correcting the way teachers teach reading to the whole class. It's now or never...or private tutoring. $$$$
What's it gonna be?
The FREE viewing is scheduled for March 2-9th.

Reading is an acquired skill. it is not natural, like speaking in our native language.
Some students appear to know their letters but struggle with rapidly naming or providing the correct sound with automaticity. This makes it very challenging to map out the sounds and decode new words.
A strong phonemic and phonological awareness are the foundation to reading success!!!
If you think your child in kindergarten could benefit from strengthening his or her foundation for reading, consider enrolling in the Alphabet Intensive.
Registration opens February 6th π±
What is the Alphabet Intensive?
π 10 week course that focuses on the root of challenge of struggling readers
π Embedded in the Science of Reading
π Comprehensive: focusing on the effective elements of reading instruction (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension)
π Fun and engaging environment for young learners entering first grade in the fall of 2023.

A must listen.
Sold a Story shares why so many of our children are struggling readers and what research has proven as effective interventions to help. Parents need to understand what types of misleading theories are out there that often confuse our youngest readers and can unfortunately make reading more difficult. As a classroom teacher, I utilized these misleading strategies simply because I did not know any better. The Science of Reading has provided us evidence on how our brains process language and the most effective methods on how to teach young children how to read.

It is a complete myth that dyslexia can only be diagnosed after a year or two of reading instruction. In fact, by then, we have lost the most opportune window to help our dyslexic students find success. The βwait to failβ approach is harmful for the overall well-being of the child. Early intervention is the most effective approach! Itβs never too late, but why not catch them before they fall?

πππEarly Intervention πππ What does effective early intervention entail? Why is it so important?
π Neuroimaging shows that effective intervention can alter the pathways in our brain! π§ π§ π§
π The best ages for effective intervention are K-2.
π Intervention should be comprehensive and explicit. At Little Sprouts Literacy we implement Build: A K-1 Early Reading Intervention developed by the staff at the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children.
π Preventative measures lead to success! Why wait and let a child fail when we can catch them before they fall?

Science has proven that those diagnosed with dyslexia have physical differences in the way their brain accesses language compared to peers without a language-based learning difference. Dyslexic students that receive the right intervention can physically alter their brains by strengthening neural pathways needed for processing language and gaining proficiency in reading and writing skills. Most importantly, early intervention provides more success because a younger childβs brain is much more formidable. Screening for signs of dyslexia in kindergarten students is so important in providing the most effective interventions!

Learning to read allows young learners to build success on success. Finding enjoyment in reading and literature provides exposure to vocabulary and content. A wealth of knowledge allows avid readers to become immersed in the world around them!
Little Sprouts Literacy believes it is the right of ALL children to learn to read. Our mission is to provide evidence-based instruction that fosters a love of learning. Learn. Sprout. Grow! π±

Our brains are βhard-wiredβ for spoken language but not for reading. For most, reading and writing skills must be explicitly and systematically taught. The first step towards literacy is oral language development. Difficulties in speech and language in the preschool years are indicators of challenges students may face in reading and spelling. This is why early detection of a possible language-based learning difference along with intervention is key!
