Do you have questions about how to help your child with an IEP while they learn online? Are you interested in finding out what help you're legally entitled to? Join us on Thursday, Sept. 24th at 10 AM for a free webinar with education attorney, Jeff Ruder. Please share and register today!
This was shared from a friend of mine that owns a center in California.
We just decided to not only offer the simulation in person (at the Wexford, PA TLC) but also to stream live online. I am looking at how to make sure the activities are do-able for those watching online.

Please set yourself a reminder to join us on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:30.

If you have done both in person and online simultaneously would you message me? What should I know?
What do you think of this?
JT shared this - great information.
A great strategy I learned today from Dr. Joe Utay 👍🏼. Quick kindness. What is it, it is an act of kindness. Why do it, because you care to commit it. When should you do it, do it immediately. How should you do it, quietly when having to do something because if it’s something you don’t want to do, you don’t want to say something you’ll regret and understand that what you’re doing can be something you don’t want to do or something you don’t mind doing. This strategy can come in handy for anybody. Examples of mine of people or charities or organizations I can think of that have used this strategy are my Grandfather since he is one of the sweetest people you’d ever know when he was alive plus why would he do it, because he cared for other people and did A Lot for friends, family, & the town of Mars. Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat ( a throwback video game I played before ) his alignment is a good guy plus he freezes bad guys why because he cares to help his allies. Mario Lemieux legend and owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he performs it because he cares about the team he owns and understands his team and watches them during a practice and during games and plus an overall good guy and great what he’s done for the city of Pittsburgh. Quick Kindness, an act of kindness that is performed right away and in a professional manner.

How much weight can toothpicks and glue hold???

We had a contest for our students to work in teams to use only toothpicks and glue to create bridges. They had a budget of $200,000 and had to pay for their glue daily and toothpicks.

Thanks to Cindy Duch for sharing. What do you think?

Hillary D. Freeman, Esq. of Freeman Law Offices, LLC together with Catherine Reisman, Esq. of Reisman, Carolla, Zuba & Gran secured an amazing decision from the United States District Court in Nevada yesterday.

In the case of O.R. et. al. v. Clark County School District, the family sought (1) reimbursement for unilaterally placing their daughter in a school that educates students with dyslexia after the school district refused to ensure that their daughter would receive Orton-Gillingham or a similar structured literacy intervention in the IEP; and (2) a determination that by refusing to provide Orton-Gillingham or a similar structured literacy intervention in her IEP, the school discriminated against her as it as it denied her "meaningful access" to her public school education, in violation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The district court ruled in the parents favor on all three of their claims. It reiterated that while school districts are not required to always include a methodology in the IEP, "a student's individual needs may require a certain methodology if the IEP team determines that it would be necessary to receive FAPE".

Here, O.R. required more than the mere components of the Orton-Gillingham Method. She required the implementation of consistent programming utilizing a structured literacy intervention throughout the day.

The IEP Teams' failure to recognize this, despite having recommendations provided in the evaluations and discussion with O.R.'s parents, resulted in the loss of educational opportunity for O.R. as she could not learn without a consistent and structured approach to multi-sensory instruction throughout the day. These violations resulted in a denial of a free appropriate public education under the IDEA. It further demonstrated deliberate indifference, and is therefore in violation of Section 504 and the ADA. The District was ordered to reimburse the family for her education and related expenses.

Congratulations to the family!
