❄️ Cold Weather Update ❄️

As colder weather moves through our area this week, Gulf District Schools will continue normal school operations and activities as scheduled. Our schools remain warm, safe, and ready to support student learning.

We understand that cold weather can create hardships for some families, including transportation challenges or other unforeseen circumstances. Please know that grace and understanding will be extended to students who may be affected.

If your child is unable to attend school due to a weather-related hardship, please send a brief note to your child’s school so the absence may be considered excusable.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We appreciate the care you show for your children and our school community.

Gulf District Schools Issues Community Update Regarding Secure-in-Place at Wewahitchka Schools

Gulf District Schools placed Wewahitchka schools into a Secure-in-Place earlier today as a precautionary measure following a shooting that occurred approximately one mile from campus. At no time was there evidence of a threat directed toward any Wewahitchka school campus.

This action was taken to protect students and staff and to ensure the safety of parents and guests who were on campus at Wewahitchka Jr./Sr. High School for an awards ceremony. A Secure-in-Place is a standard safety protocol used when a situation occurs near a school campus but does not present a direct threat to the school. During this protocol, normal school operations continue inside the building while exterior access is limited to prevent any potential intrusion.

Again, at no time was there evidence of a threat directed toward any Wewahitchka school campus. The decision to secure the campus was made out of an abundance of caution and in close coordination with local law enforcement.

Gulf District Schools is grateful for the continued partnership with law enforcement and appreciates the patience and cooperation of our students, staff, parents, and community. The safety of our students and employees remains our highest priority, and we will always take proactive steps to protect our campuses.
