Mark the calendars!

This weekend the Pastor asked, "What am I willing to do to win?"

Crazy thing is, I've been wrestling with that same question for almost two years. In the 2024 season, I pushed kids to breaking points — to where some hated the sport and walked away.

That's not my mission. That's not my goal. So I dropped the "winning" part. Now I just care that they gave 100%.

In our spiritual walk, some of us will do crazy things for what we want or love. Don't ask what I'd do for a yacht full of gas and fishing gear — I'm no better than anyone else 😆 Stop judging!

When you ask, "What am I willing to do to win?" the Bible asks it right back, but better: "What are you winning, and what is it costing you?"

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 and Luke 14:28 talk about counting the cost.

For me, winning was costing friends, memories, and opportunities. I don't want that anymore. I don't want to walk out of that room stressed and angry. Take the pressure off and watch the seeds grow.

I did call out two wrestlers who could be something amazing, but I don't feel they want it bad enough. I'm okay with that — but will they be? What's keeping your wrestler from running an extra lap, hitting a workout, taking a run, or working at home? It's not me, it's not the HS coach, and it shouldn't be family.

I'm here as a coach to help you down either path. Spiritually, I'm here to help you down ONE path.

What path are you taking — and what are you willing to do to win?

The next week or two will be stressful and it will give you plenty of reasons why NOT to make practice.

Just remember those reasons come sectionals and state! August-October are some of the most important months of off-season wrestling.

Take a break, relax, and enjoy your last couple of days of summer. That's the easy thing to do. Just don't expect to be on the podium.

I'm reading a lot of Deep South posts "he had fun, we knew before going in, that tournament is TOUGH".

News flash... Deep South is a decent tournament for the South, but there are a lot bigger and meaner tournaments out there. Stop planning on being Alabama good and prepare for greater.

Last season a lot of you were not particularly happy with your wrestler's performance.

However, 90% of you did NOTHING about it! I can promise you one thing, wrestling is NOT like the other sports. You will not get a spot because mom or dad knows someone, your wrestler will NOT learn from your loud voice and tears, 3 months of practice (not missing one practice) is NOT enough, and there is only one way to get better!

It's called sacrifice!

How much did you or your wrestler put into wrestling this summer? October is 2 months away, there's time for improvement!

This includes you YOUTH parents!

I saw so many of our kids placing in individuals and some amazing matches! Proud of all of you who showed up!

If you want me to coach your wrestler, please have them signed up under Alpha Elite for individuals.

I will not go on a scavenger hunt to coach. This may shock you, but yelling take them down and get up is not beneficial. So find a COACH.
