The USAC Community Service Commission has just launched an exciting new project called the Facing Project focusing on building awareness in our community through the art of storytelling. In brief the project features different stories of triumph and tragedy of students regarding each year's theme. Facing Project writers on staff will be paired with storytellers each quarter to meet and bond togeth

er once a week to build a relationship and learn each other's perspectives. After the storyteller feels comfortable enough to tell their story the writer will listen, take notes, and then write from a first person perspective an interpretation of the story. The storyteller will become an integral part of the process and have final say on what they want included or omitted from the final result. Storytellers may choose to remain anonymous in any way if they choose. These stories will either be featured on our blog or in our book released during Spring quarter. This project is really an amazing way to use different mediums to artistically convey the stories of students in our community. It's a celebration of the human experience and provides students with an opportunity to tell their story helping other students along the way. From a personal experience there is no greater way to teach tolerance than to share stories. From the beginning of time stories were told to teach, guide, and reflect on the past. There are so many issues that communities around the world face and we want to be a small impact on bringing light to those issues. We are a subsidiary of the national The Facing Project campaign.
