Westwood Volleyball Coaches:

VARSITY: Jenny Murphy
JUNIOR VARSITY: Justyne Collier
FRESHMEN: Hayley Barner & Riana Laurenti
8th GRADE: Kim Patrizi

After much thought & consideration, I’ve made the difficult decision to step down from my coaching position at WHS after 17 seasons. It’s impossible for words to adequately capture the depth of my feelings, but here goes-My heart is & always will be with Westwood Volleyball. I’ve grown up in this program and have had the unique privilege of playing for AND coaching at all 3 levels. I’m endlessly proud of our journey, our achievements & most of all, the community we’ve built together.
To all of my former players: each of you have left an indelible mark on my heart. You were, without a doubt, the driving force that brought me back year after year. Thank you for allowing me to mentor you both on & off the court; it’s been one of the most rewarding & fulfilling experiences of my life. From the laughter to the tears, through ups & downs, we’ve grown together and I’ve learned as much from you as I hope you’ve learned from me. Having many of you return to coach alongside me was a dream come true that has meant more to me than you’ll ever know.
To parents, coaches & WHS staffers; thank you for the incredible support & encouragement you’ve afforded me throughout the years. I’m grateful for the opportunity the WW community provided me to pursue my passion & to be able to do it in my own way. Many coaches are not as fortunate & I deeply appreciate the trust you placed in me.
To my family & friends: your love & support has meant the world to me. Whether donating to our many fundraisers, coming to games or just genuinely being interested in my teams, thank you!
To my dad who encouraged that little 21-year-old to apply for the freshman coaching position, when she didn’t think she had any business doing so-I never would have dreamt that I would take over the program & lead it to its first TVL title in 36 years, make playoff appearances every season & have the longest playoff runs in history. I may not have always believed I could do it, but you did & pushed me to believe in myself. I quite literally, couldn’t(and wouldn’t) have done it without you!

It’s the end of an era, but OUR legacy will surely endure & I can’t wait to see what’s to come for WW VBall!

MIAA STATE TOURNAMENT-DIV. II
ROUND OF 32

🏆PLAYERS OF THE GAME 11/3/23: Hannah Layden & Raha Favakeh!

In our 2023 finale, we had to highlight the efforts of Hannah and Raha who both played so strong to close out their high school careers! In such a high-stakes game, with nerves, adrenaline and emotions running high, these two seniors showed great leadership and mental toughness to pull us through the 4 set match. Hannah had an amazing showing at the net, leading in kills and blocks and made the quick adjustments needed to keep the Hillers front line at bay. Raha has worked hard all season to perfect her technique and was really able to show that work in the libero jersey Friday night. She was a top server and kept countless plays alive, keeping the scores tight and hope alive! With Hannah in the front and Raha in the back, this duo kept their heads in the game and never gave up, leading us to a 3rd set win. Congratulations, ladies!!

Congratulations to all 6 seniors; Hannah, Raha, Kennedy, Annie, Ainsley and Althea, on a fun and successful 4 years with WWVB—we’re so proud of how far you’ve come and how much you’ve achieved for the program!!

🏆PLAYER OF THE GAME 10/25/23: Kennedy Lehnen!

What an amazing showing from Kennedy on her Senior Night! In our regular season finale, she closed it out at the top of almost all stats categories; with a team total of an 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 11 blocks, Kennedy took part in 6, she made the most attacks, earned the most kills, picked up the most digs (11) and was in the top 2 for serve-receptions (13)! She kept the energy high all night and never slowed down—she was so much fun to watch and worked hard to be the glue to keep all her senior teammates by her side throughout the 3-set match! What. A. Night. Congrats, Kennedy!!

•Honorable Mention: Katherine Sanel! Serves-6, Aces-1, Attacks-16, Kills-4, Blocks-6, Digs-4

In our last game against Hopkinton, these three girls stepped it up with great energy, positivity and leadership! Our captains have been an integral part of this teams success this year. Maddy throughout this season has been an outstanding player as an outside hitter, always making smart plays, powerful hits, amazing digs, perfect serve-receive and motivating her team to always push through! Charlotte as a middle through the season has played fantastic sets, as she is a machine at the net with, attacks blocks and behind the serving line she kills it every time! Izzy did a wonderful job, stepping it up for her team, where she proved to be a strong attacker at the net as well as server!!Congrats on her first ace, I am so happy to see where she has improved so much. Izzy is the type of player who is always willing to learn and extends her smile to everyone. She is a positive soul on the team, and always playing with her best energy! She was doing wonderful when it came to defense, especially with that last play, she was able yo think quickly and save the pass to win the point! Super clutch!! She was able to get to where the ball was placed in difficult areas, surprising the other team with her wonderful digs. Her positive attitude shined on the court, and spread across through her teammates. The effort she was determined to put in, was clearly shown especially with her fabulous drive for success! Great job Izzy!!💚💚

🏆PLAYER OF THE GAME 10/18/23: Annie Rufo!

Annie has been working so hard towards the goals she’s set for herself, and last night it all came together in a very well-rounded performance! As the team confronts the adversity of injuries and illnesses, senior captain, Annie, stepped up to fill-in in every way possible to get the job done! She played a very clean game overall, with zero serve-receive, digging or service errors and she led the team in attacks, kills AND hitting %. She played very smartly and opened the toolbox to balance the types of attacks, always looking to find the floor and earn the point. She moved well on defense and kept her energy up throughout the 3 set match. Awesome job, Annie!!

•Honorable Mention: Raha Favakeh! Stepping in as libero last night, Raha slayeddd! She really focused and nailed proper coverage and made so many great plays to keep the offense alive. Serves-12, Aces-3, Attacks-2, Receptions-14, Assists-3, Digs-13
•Honorable Mention: Angelina Homsy! Angelina has really turned it up lately and last night was no different! She’s moving so well on both offense and defense and has become a real force on the court! Serves-13, Aces-6, Attacks-28, Kills-7, Receptions-11, Digs-11
****************************
🏐JV PLAYER OF THE GAME: AVERY HERLIHY!! Tonight against Norwood, Avery ABSOLUTELY killed it! Avery has worked hard all season on her consistency with passes, serving, communication, and hitting. She’s might be short, but it doesn’t matter, her jump and power holds her back from nothing! Avery had 5 attacks tonight, with 3 kills!!👏As an outside hitter, Avery has stepped it up and learned how to use her power to absolutely put the ball down! Avery has great energy, and has been working on also shaking off her mistakes, and when she comes off the court, she knows how to fix her mistakes and applys it! So proud of you Avery!🤍💚
🏆🏆JV WINS!!
Honorable Mention- Tav Lodovico! Tonight Tav kept her energy strong! Keeping herself and her team positive, Tav is a key player on this team who showcases an extremely high IQ! 6 serves, 1 ace, 3 attacks 1 kill, 5 receives, 3 digs! Keep it up Tav!🤍
Honorable Mention- Lilija Purins! Once again, Lilija showcases her amazing talent on the court. Lilija is an extremely skilled player and keeps this team going strong- 8 serves 3 aces, 4 kills, 5 digs and many sets!💚
****************************
🏐FRESHMAN PLAYER OF THE GAME: CARA COLLINS!! In our game against Norwood, Cara played wonderfully in the first set, proving her prominent role as middle hitter. She showed off behind the serving line last night, getting 3 aces!!! Not only were those some of her first aces, they led our team to get to 15 and win that final set! She had strong hits at the net that set up her team for success with kills! Not only were her serves consistent they were placed in spots making it tough for Norwood to keep up. She was showing up the court with her consistent attacks at the net, and serves that can’t go unnoticed, where most were aces! Loved watching her play as she does at practice with all her energy and positive vibe. Can’t wait to see more for the next games! Congratulations Cara!💚
