Update:
Dear Ocosta Families,
We want to provide you with an update regarding this morning’s evacuation.
The fire department, working with district maintenance staff, determined that a heating element in a hot water tank overheated, which caused smoke in the building. There was no fire.
After the fire department assessed the situation and determined it was safe to return, students and staff went back into the building and resumed classes at approximately 10:45 a.m.
We are very proud of our students and staff. Everyone did a great job following our emergency procedures and remained patient while the fire department and our maintenance staff assessed the situation.
We also appreciate our local fire department for their quick response and assistance in making sure our building was safe before students and staff returned.

Dear Ocosta Families,
We want to make you aware that we have evacuated the school after smoke was detected in the building. Out of an abundance of caution, 911 was called, and the fire department is responding to assess the situation.
All students and staff safely evacuated the building. Due to the weather, we moved students to the grandstands while the fire department investigates the source of the smoke.
Student and staff safety is always our first priority. We appreciate our students and staff for following our emergency procedures calmly and quickly, and we are grateful to our local first responders for their prompt response.
We will provide families with additional information if needed.
