Which type of sleeper do you have? We all have partial arousals throughout the night, in between sleep cycles but usually don’t remember them. But if your baby or child doesn’t know how to soothe themselves, they will cry out so that they can get back to sleep with an assist from you. If this describes your sleeper, shoot me a DM!

“Crying is hard, but sleeplessness is harder” is one of my favorite quotes by Dr. Marc Weissbluth, author of “Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child”. Contrary to popular belief, there really isn’t a “no cry” sleep solution. I don’t mean you have to do “cry it out”, but anticipate at least a few tears when sleep training or trying to teach a new sleep behavior. This is ok! It IS hard, but not sleeping is definitely harder! I have many strategies to use in order to get your child sleeping and we always choose one that YOU are comfortable with! DM to learn more!

I love this chart from with recommendations for children’s sleep needs by age. Fall is in full swing with school, sports and activities, and as a fellow mom, I always have my daughters’ sleep on the brain and questioning if they are getting enough. Save and share this post - and if you’re falling short, see if you can even push bedtime back by 15 minutes as it can make a difference!

It’s testimonial Tuesday! I really loved working with this family whose 13 month old had never learned to fall asleep independently. She was being rocked to sleep at bedtime and for all naps and sleeping in parents bed when waking overnight. A was so ready to do it herself, her sleep came together really beautifully with the commitment of her fabulous parents!

If you’ve been struggling with sleep - no matter what the issue - shoot me a DM and I’d be happy to chat!! Also DST will be here before you know it, so starting on a healthy sleep schedule NOW will eliminate any blips with falling back! How’s that for some ?

A colleague shared this and even though it wasn’t written with sleep training in mind, these principles will always apply. Also, I just might have a few secrets up my sleeve! 😉

Let’s talk cat naps!! This is the third nap of the day for infants 4-9 months and acts as a bridge between the afternoon nap and bedtime. Typically it will start somewhere btwn 3-5pm and be 30-45 minutes in length. It should end no later than 5 or 5:30 and unlike the other two naps, can be taken on the go in a stroller, car or carrier. Most babies drop this nap around 8-9 months.

Don’t skip this nap or drop if prematurely, or you could wind up with an overtired baby by bedtime! Need help? Shoot me a DM!

Did you know that moving bedtime earlier for your newborn could result in a longer stretch of sleep?

😴 At around 8 weeks, try moving bedtime earlier to around 7pm. The circadian rhythms are starting to mature and send signals to the body to fall asleep with the sunset. If you’re noticing baby snoozing early evening, that is also an indication to start moving things up. An earlier bedtime, often results in a longer stretch of sleep over time. Remember, sleep begets sleep!

It’s never too early or too late, to work on your child’s sleep! DM to get started.

What are 3 signs of a quality nap?

😴 First, the nap should be at least one hour in length, which means the child was successfully able to complete a sleep cycle and return to sleep. Less than one hour is not considered restorative.

😴 Second, the nap is consolidated so that there is no break or crying between sleep cycle transition points.

😴 Third, the child wakes up happy and refreshed and is generally happy until the next rest period.
