We've just wrapped up post-production of the long-awaited audiobook edition of Where the Light Is Brighter, which we published in print in 2023.

The audiobook stars the legendary Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie) as Edith, a feisty 98-year-old who has just reluctantly entered the fictional long-term care facility River's Edge. Other featured narrators are June Squibb (Nebraska, Eleanor the Great, Marjorie Prime) as Pearl, Steve Schirripa (The Sopranos) as Bruno, Loretta Devine (Dream Girls, The Ms. Pat Show) as Stella, and James Remar (Dexter) as William. The rest of the multi-narrator cast includes Gerard Doyle, Elayne Gordon, Jeff Gurner, and Christine Rendel, along with Fran Betlyon, Alissa Dellork, Desmond Fernandez, Sandra Marante, Elana Polin, Emily Solo, Paul Silver, Kailey Souder, and Jacob Sundlie. Casting and editing by Jacob Sundlie. Mastering by Nick Smith.

Here's a bit about the book:

Where the Light Is Brighter is the touching, bittersweet story of life in a long-term care facility, told mostly through the sharp eyes of 98-year-old Edith who has an opinion on everything and everyone and a lifetime of memories that are slowly slipping away. Humorous, honest, and based on author C. C. Griffin’s extensive experience working in healthcare, the book not only entertains and illuminates readers but also encourages them to become part of the global movement to end ageism through a novel that reimagines our perceptions on a rarely discussed chapter of our lives.

Residents of the fictional River’s Edge celebrate a year of holidays during which stereotypes are challenged and brightness breaks through at every turn. Edith enters the facility reluctant and standoffish, at the insistence of her son William, but soon surrenders to a self-appointed “welcoming committee” comprised of Stella, Roula, and Nellie and begins to make friends both old and young. Other colorful characters include ladies’ man Bruno, curmudgeonly O’Neill, and gift shop owner Pearl. Casting nonagenarians Squibb and Eden was a conscious decision to highlight that vitality can and does thrive later in life. Come join the residents of River’s Edge in celebrating life at every stage.

The audiobook is scheduled to release on August 23—Barbara Eden's 95th birthday.

As a teaser, you can listen to Barbara read the book's opening credits.
