Summer Internship Reflection: Madi P. ’27, JumpStart Physical Therapy 💪

“One of the most rewarding parts of the experience was seeing many of the same patients each week,” Madi writes. “Watching their progress over time, from increasing their range of motion to becoming more confident performing exercises independently, showed me that physical therapy supports not only physical healing, but also emotional well-being. I hope to pursue a career where I can have that kind of impact on others.”

Alum Profile: Kaitlin Davidson ’16 🏥

Though she didn’t always know what career she wanted to pursue, Kaitlin Davidson ’16 knew she wanted her job to feel purposeful, and she wanted to be able to do it anywhere.

“What drew me to nursing is you get to go to sleep at the end of the day knowing that you made even a small difference in someone’s life,” says Davidson, who is now a perioperative nurse.

Happy ! Today’s art, made in Jeff Nisbet’s Mindfulness in Drawing course, is by Harper P. ’28 🌀

Slides 1 and 2 are from a project that began with the study of 20th century artist Barbara Hepworth. Students then learned about the Zen Buddhist meditational “kōan” and were challenged to synthesize their understanding by creating an abstract work of art. Once completed, they created a handwritten, 1,000-word “origin story” from the perspective of a visual component in their painting.

Slide 3 includes two pieces from a project in which students studied the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. Students photographed visual representations of wabi-sabi at Camp Nonesuch using analog film cameras and developed their film in the darkroom. They then picked one photo to render as a graphite drawing.

Harper reflected on her experience in Mindfulness in Drawing, saying, “As the course continued, I started to practice patience more and more, and I learned that before this class started I had very little patience.”

Summer Internship Reflection: Kiran J. ’27, Tufts Medical Center 🩺

“As someone aspiring to enter the medical field, I found that my three-week internship at Tufts Medical Center was a highly valuable opportunity to see the layers of healthcare firsthand,” writes Kiran J. ’27. “Observing both inpatient care and the outpatient clinic, I shadowed Dineli Ahearn, an internal medicine specialist and primary care physician, as she managed cases alongside her incredible teams.”

Happy ! Today’s art is by Kyra Coggin ’26 🪶

“I like to take notice of the small details of everyday life and the small details of other people. The mountain on the horizon, a man feeding pigeons at the park, a sea lion napping on a rock, a swan boat under a bridge, the list goes on,” Kyra wrote in her senior show artist statement. “I have learned to love the small things and have begun to cherish them even more as my time at Rivers has come to a close. … Art has taught me that there is a unique kind of magic in the unscripted. The most beautiful, perfect moments aren’t the ones we pose for; they’re the ones that catch us by surprise when no one is watching.”

Alum Profile: Adam Lowenstein ’10 🦷

Adam Lowenstein ’10 practices pediatric dentistry in Framingham and Wellesley, and he’s an assistant professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. “My passion comes from wanting to help others,” he says.

“Dentistry is such a big part of overall health,” Lowenstein explains. “You may think that you’re just going in for a cleaning, but it still affects the rest of the body.”

Rivers’ most recent grads are gearing up for an exciting new chapter at these colleges and universities! 🎓📚

“The Class of 2026 did a fantastic job reflecting on their time at Rivers and applying that to find colleges that align with their unique goals and aspirations,” says Director of College Counseling Dave Lyons ’99, P’30, ’32. “It was a pleasure to see so many amazing admission offices around the country recognize this and welcome our graduates to their communities.”

In her senior show artist statement, Maylea reflected, “Most times, I could lose myself in the viewfinder and capture the world, but other times, a voice in the back of my head critiqued every image harshly, denouncing my accomplishments and creations as a fluke. But the moments where I could lose myself in my art, I felt fulfilled. It took my entire art career at Rivers to truly realize that. ... This year, I focused on making whatever I wanted to. From collages of scribbles to photographing my friends, I dove into art when I wanted to relax or had creative energy.”
