Roxbury Weston Programs creates an open and intentional environment of cultural, socio-economic, linguistic, and cognitive diversity. Guiding children’s experiences alerts them to their world around them and transforms their learning and understanding. Our children emerge as socially aware and conscious thinkers, which carries them throughout their school career and well into their adult life. Roxbury Weston Preschool recognizes the developmental needs of the whole child with equal emphasis placed on physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth. Teachers design the curriculum to meet each child’s individual interests and needs, understanding that each child learns at his or her own pace and in his or her own way and time. The preschool and after school program have been visited by members of the Boston Public Schools, the Schott Principals Fellowship, as well as leaders from the Weston Public School system. Two doctoral candidates from different institutions have conducted research at the preschool and CATCH exploring curriculum content and methodology. Our teachers from the preschool work diligently to align the standards, curriculum, instruction, and assessments within and across the preschool years through 3rd grade in order to bridge the early (PK) and elementary (1st-3rd) education experiences. This supports our children in learning the skills they require to succeed in school and in life. The standards, curriculum, instruction and assessments focus on social competence and self-discipline as well as academic skills. This quality of education has an enormous impact on a child’s lifelong learning and positively contributes to their health and development with a greater readiness for success in school and in life.
