🌸 Sharing the Joy of Flowers! 🌸

On Tuesday, Pottawatomie County Extension Master Gardeners Lori and Janet visited the Onega Historical Society to share a fun, hands-on flower arranging class. 💐

Participants had the opportunity to work with beautiful fresh-cut flowers and greenery while learning tips for creating their own unique arrangements. Just look at all those beautiful bouquets—and smiles! 🌼🌿

We love opportunities like this to share our knowledge, connect with our communities, and enjoy the beauty that gardening brings into our lives.

A big thank you to the Onega Historical Society for having us! 💜

What’s Blooming in Your Garden?

🌻 Show Us Your Garden! 🌻

Even with the Kansas heat, something is still putting on a show!

We’d love to see what’s blooming in your garden right now. Is it zinnias? Coneflowers? Black-eyed Susans? Sunflowers? Maybe your vegetable garden is producing like crazy!

🌞 Coffee with the Master Gardeners – Summer Gardening Tips 🌿

Although we weren’t able to gather for our July Coffee with the Master Gardeners, we still wanted to share a few tips to help your garden—and you—make it through the hottest part of the summer!

When temperatures soar:
🌿 Water deeply in the early morning.
🌿 Apply 2–3 inches of mulch to help conserve moisture and keep roots cool.
🌿 Check container plants daily—they dry out much faster than plants in the ground.
🌿 Consider using shade cloth for tender vegetables and flowers during extreme heat.
🌿 Stay ahead of weeds so they aren’t competing with your plants for water.
🌿 Most importantly, take care of yourself! Wear a hat, drink plenty of water, take breaks, and garden during the cooler parts of the day.

Summer gardening isn’t about working harder—it’s about working smarter. A little planning goes a long way toward keeping both you and your garden healthy.

What has been your biggest challenge this summer? We’d love to hear your favorite tips or tricks in the comments! 🌻💚

🌿 🌿 What a wonderful day of learning and fellowship! 🌿

Today, members of the Pottawatomie County Master Gardeners enjoyed a tour of the beautiful Kansas State University Gardens and Greenhouses in Manhattan.

From breathtaking water lilies and colorful display gardens to fascinating tropical plants, orchids, bromeliads, towering cacti, and the incredible co**se flower, there was no shortage of inspiration! 🌺🌵🪷 We also had the opportunity to learn about the research and plant collections that help make the K-State Gardens such a valuable resource for gardeners across Kansas.

Of course, one of the best parts of the day was spending time together—sharing ideas, asking questions, enjoying lunch, and making memories with fellow gardening friends.

A big thank you to the K-State Gardens staff for taking the time to share their knowledge and passion with our group. We left inspired and full of new ideas to take back to our own gardens!

🌼 Lifelong learning is one of the greatest joys of being a Master Gardener.
