The Pottawatomie County Extension Office in Westmoreland is open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In Kansas, Extension personnel work on the Kansas State University campus and in 105 county offices. Extension programs are designed to meet the needs of the local community. Pottawatomie County Extension promotes programs in these areas:

Our staff consists of three County Extension Agents, an office manager, and a SNAP Ed program assistant. We utilize numerous program volunteers to fulfill our mission. Educational efforts are guided by volunteers that serve on one of four Program Development Committees (PDC). All PDC members together constitutes the County Extension Council. Nine members of the Council are elected to serve on the Executive Board.

What a weekend!
4th high Quizbowl Team (Mason Rookstool, Ella Hoeltzel, Emeri Deters and Lakyn Rookstool)

The Livestock Judging Team this weekend was Ella Hoeltzel, Lakyn Rookstool, Colby Jones, Faith Perry, Allie Perry, Addie Rookstool, Clay Buchanan and Corbin Fink.
3rd High Overall Team
2nd High Placings Team
2nd High Sheep Team
Allie was 6th High Overall and 2nd High placing
Lakyn was 13th High Overall and 1st High Sheep!

Skill-A-Thon team was Ella Hoeltzel, Emeri Deters, Faith Perry, Clay Buchanan, Allie Perry, Lucy Rickard, Addie Buchanan, Lexi Hummel, Brigham Disberger.
Brigham was 15th High Over All!

We’re excited to have Gary Fike with us as our temporary Agriculture Agent!

Gary brings more than 26 years of experience in Extension, serving in Kansas, Iowa, and Ohio in a variety of roles, including county agriculture agent, area beef specialist, and state Extension assistant in Beef Quality Assurance.

His experience also includes serving as a Beef Cattle Specialist with Certified Angus Beef and as Director of Commercial Marketing for the Red Angus Association.

Gary holds a B.S. in Vocational Agriculture Education from Oklahoma Panhandle State University and an M.S. in Ruminant Nutrition from Kansas State University.

With his extensive background in agriculture, beef production, Extension, and producer education, Gary is able to answer a wide variety of questions during the temporary assignment. Please call the office if you have any agricultural questions and we will get you connected with Gary! 785-457-3319.

So, Lakyn asked me a while back if I would mind if she took photos at the backdrops. I loved the idea, but I had no clue just how talented she was!

This girl has shown up quietly behind the scenes in some really big ways. Not only did she absolutely knock the photography out of the park, but it goes so much deeper than that. So much of what makes our fair special happens outside the show ring, in the quiet corners where not everyone is looking.

Lakyn isn’t loud or boastful about her talents—she simply gives. She’s a rockstar in the ring, but I’ve also watched her spend countless moments coaching the littles, encouraging them, and helping them find the confidence to grow.

Girl, you are changing lives. Your impact reaches far beyond the photos you take and the banners you win. Thank you for investing in others, for sharing your gifts, and for making our county a better place.

Keep being awesome. We are all better because of it.
