Peanut convinced Miss Sarah Jane to let her put on her favorite fall costume and explore the garden this week, looking for pumpkins!

After visiting the gardens, Peanut popped back into the Library to do some reading.

We wanted to share this message on behalf of our friends at the Westmont Fire Department:

"The Westmont Fire Department will once again be participating in the annual Silent Parade event.

This year’s parade will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 7 p.m.

The parade, which is part of National Fire Prevention Week, is dedicated to firefighters and fire victims who have lost their lives due to fires.

The Silent Parade will start in Hinsdale and then travel west on Chicago Avenue through Westmont.

The route then continues on Naperville Road and eventually ends in Lisle.

The public is invited to attend and stand along the parade route holding a flashlight in honor of those who lost their lives."

The forecast says it's going to be a beautiful, sunny weekend to be outdoors, and we have a great outdoor activity for you—a StoryWalk!

This month's StoryWalk features the book Walter's Wonderful Web by Tim Hopgood.

Enjoy the story with the whole family while you stroll through Diane Main Park—200 W 59th Street.

Simply follow the path around the lake, reading signs placed along the trail, to take in the full story.

This StoryWalk will be available through Monday, October 5!

Last week, we learned that wild pumpkins are growing in the garden.

This week, we discovered that the squirrels have been planting peanuts—so now we have peanut plants growing in the garden!

The Master Gardeners for Westmont Public Library’s Giving Garden have received the 2026 State Master Gardener Teamwork Award from the University of Illinois Extension, which recognizes collaborative, impactful, and innovative Master Gardener projects.

The award honors team members Pat Miller, Judilynn Bult, Marlene Kastle, Sharon Rakowski, Kirsten Schmidt, and Sue Van D**e for their work cultivating the garden and providing gardening education to the community.

The award was presented to the team at the 2026 Illinois Master Gardener State Conference.
