Cherokee Creek Boys School

Cherokee Creek Boys School CHEROKEE CREEK Boys School - accredited & licensed therapeutic boarding school for boys ages 10-15.

Cherokee Creek Boys School is a warm, positive, nurturing learning community that offers the benefits of small enrollment, hands-on academics, therapy, counseling, recreation and a talented staff dedicated to helping boys find their way back to a life of balance and harmony. We do this by weaving time for fun, play and laughter; daily exercise; a balanced diet; music; love and support systems; cre

ative outlets for hobbies and activities and time in nature into a healthy and healing living environment for students and staff. Our students are young and Cherokee Creek is a perfect place for “boys to be boys.” Our wooded campus is surrounded by state and national parks and wildlife refuges that put boys in touch with the wonder of nature. The region boasts rugged, forested mountains, scenic lakes, gorgeous waterfalls, and some of the best whitewater rafting in the country. Through our environmental studies curriculum and popular Treks program, we take full advantage of the hiking, camping, rafting, canoeing, and climbing opportunities — using nature as a powerful teacher and a source of recreation and fun!

For many students, the start of a new school year brings a mix of emotions: excitement, anticipation, anxiety and even dread.

This emotional cocktail is especially intense for boys between the ages of 10 and 15, a time when developmental changes, academic pressure and social expectations can all feel overwhelming.

Our Goal at Cherokee Creek is to shift the school experience from being a place of fear or failure’ to a place of discovery, encouragement and growth. For boys who have lost their love of learning, we are committed to offering each boy a path to regain confidence, curiosity and joy.

A residential therapeutic boarding school is a live-in educational and treatment setting where boys receive academics, therapy and daily-life coaching all in one integrated setting.

Instead of shuttling a child between school, a therapist’s office, maybe a tutor and back home to the same triggers every evening … Everything happens in one connected community … with EVERYONE working toward the same goal.

Choosing a residential therapeutic boarding school is never a decision made lightly and it’s not a sign that you’ve failed as a parent – in fact, quite the opposite.
It’s often the moment a family chooses hope over a holding pattern.

If your son is struggling with school, social pressures, his mental health, ADHD, Autism Level 1, or a hard-to-break relationship with technology, know that there is help—and there can be a path forward.

There are many options families can explore, including residential therapeutic boarding schools. But what does that actually mean? How might a program like that help a boy between the ages of 10 and 15? And could it be a potential option for your son?

Choosing the right support for your child is never a decision made lightly. You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

We’ve created a resource to help parents better understand what a residential therapeutic boarding school really is, what it can offer, and how it differs from what you might be picturing in the middle of the night when you’re worried about your son.

Learn more about residential therapeutic boarding schools—and how Cherokee Creek Boys School has supported boys ages 10–15 and their families for more than 20 years.

At CCBS our Family Adventures are designed for the student and his family to enjoy time together! Adventures include a variety of multi-day family outings / Treks … that combine adventure, fun and healing time in nature.

The Treks take you far away from the daily distractions of life and offer a wonderful opportunity for families to rebuild relationships and gain new perspectives.

Our August trip to the Boundary Waters brought some important CCBS lessons to life - Be Open To Outcome and Be Resilient - for students, parents, and staff alike.
There were moments of uncertainty with our route, weather, and logistics. This adventure was full of opportunities to deal with the unknown and practice resilience.

We also had a great opportunity to have FUN! Fishing, swimming, and paddling were just a few of the activities that everyone enjoyed throughout the week.

When CCBS staff members David LePere (Exec Dir) and Elijah Smith (Primary Mentor) were knocked off their bikes by serious injuries, they each faced the same decision: quit...or get back on.

They chose to get back on.

Today, they're preparing for the CCBS 3rd Annual - BOTO's Big Ride - on September 8th— 360-mile cycling journey to raise awareness for adolescent mental health and support the Cherokee Creek Boys School Fire Keepers Scholarship Fund.

But this story isn't really about bicycles.

It's about resilience.

It's about getting back up after life knocks you down.

And it's the same lesson our team works every day to teach boys ages 10–15 who are struggling with anxiety, ADHD, academic challenges, or simply finding their place in the world.

Read David's and Elijah's inspiring stories, discover how their journey reflects the mission of Cherokee Creek Boys School, and learn how you can help change a boy's life through the Fire Keepers Scholarship Fund.

When you arrive on the CCBS campus, our mascot BOTO the Bear will greet you on the front porch of the lodge. BOTO says the number one question he gets is, "What does your name mean? So he wanted us to share the story with you!

Years ago a CCBS team member arrived at work with a t-shirt that said “ # B.O.T.O.” on the front. Everyone was curious about it. He shared that it stood for "Be Open to Outcome," which is the guiding principle of two of the core elements of our character development curriculum: Teacher and Wisdom!

"BOTO’ quickly became a mantra for the boys, families and staff, reminding us that sometimes it's wise to let go of the need to control everything, so we can embrace curiosity, be flexible and be open for new possibilities to emerge.

BOTO is so much more than just our greeter and mascot. He is a symbol of hope and possibility for everyone who comes to Cherokee Creek Boys School.

TIPS FOR HELPING A CHILD WITH ADHD who has CHALLENGES COMMUNICATING!

When most people think of ADHD, they picture difficulty paying attention or staying still. But ADHD can also affect how a child listens, speaks and engages in conversations.

Kids with ADHD often struggle with pragmatic language; knowing how and when to use language appropriately in social settings. They may interrupt, talk too much or struggle to follow the flow of a conversation. Sometimes, they simply can’t organize their thoughts quickly enough to keep up. (The Journal of Attention Disorders)

According to a review in the National Library of Medicine, many child
also miss subtle cues like tone of voice or facial expressions. This can lead to misunderstandings with peers … and eventually, social withdrawal or acting out.

THE GOOD NEWS - Communication skills can be improved … with the right support.
