Can you remember losing your baby teeth? Not surprisingly, many of us can because it is such an exciting, major event in a child’s life. For days on end, all life seems to revolve around that loose tooth. It’s difficult to keep your hands off the wiggley, wobbley rascal! It’s pretty frustrating too. After the first little wiggle, it can seem to take FOREVER to come out! And some of the unusual methods people advise for coaxing out the little wiggler; who can forget that! But, in the end, all it really takes is patience and persistence.

If you have a loose baby tooth; or, if you’re someone yet to lose that first tooth who is filled with curiosity and excitement about the up-coming momentous event, “Wiggle, Wobble” was written for you. Dr. Kekkonen has long valued and enjoyed children’s literature for the opportunities it offers to learn about the world in and around us. Wiggle Wobble is his second children’s book. His first, Maggie, Marshall and the Magic Magnifying Glass, 2016 EVVY gold medal winner, adds a little “yuck” factor in explaining what germs are doing inside our mouths. Dr. Doug practiced family dentistry in Westminster, Colorado for more than 20 years. He also enjoyed teaching in middle and elementary schools for 15 years. How do you get kids (and often adults) to brush their teeth? It's a question I was often confronted with when I was practicing dentistry. I wrote "Maggie, Marshall and the Magic Magnifying Glass" to explain the reasons to brush in a light-hearted, engaging story that kids can understand.
Research shows that repeated practice helps establish a new habit, so I also created the pictured tooth brushing chart with star stickers to help kids track their daily brushing.
I am currently seeking sponsors and grants to help bringing this book, chart and tooth brushes into elementary classrooms; especially to under-served populations where dental disease is the worst in children. If you know anyone who might be willing to underwrite a classroom or two, let me know.
