Traffic and Parking Safety- PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR WARRIORS SAFE:
WOHS and our Bus Office have noticed several issues this past week concerning safety in our parking lots during dismissal and arrival to school. Please help us keep our Warriors safe by following these guidelines:
- Parents are not permitted to park in student parking lots to pick-up, nor drop off students from 7:30AM to 4:00 PM. These parking lots are for student driver use ONLY. This also applies to the bus parking lot. Often bus drivers transfer bus riders from one bus to another in that lot, and additional traffic is strictly prohibited in the bus parking lot. Traffic at dismissal time can be especially congested, and students are on foot to their vehicles and to practice fields- this presents potentially dangerous situations. ALL parent pick-up and drop-off must occur at the front of the school. Violators will be addressed by our Oconee County Sheriff's Office SRO.
- Parents picking students up from the front of the school are reminded that it is very dangerous for students to walk to Highway 24 to meet vehicles and this has resulted in many accidents over the years. Students are also highly discouraged from walking to the gas station across the street after school and no students should be walking to the gas station parking lot to catch their ride. That is a business parking lot and traffic includes many large trucks and service vehicles trying to access fuel.
- No West-Oak Middle School students are permitted to be dropped off from buses at West-Oak High School, the only WOMS students permitted on campus from a bus are those who are on a high school sports team, or part of the high school marching band.
- No personal vehicles are permitted in the school's bus loop at any time.
- Students caught walking to the store before school, after being dropped off on campus by a parent, or the bus will be considered 'Out of Area' and subject to discipline.
- Student drivers MUST park in their assigned spaces and display their parking permit hang tag. Failure to do so can result in loss of driving privileges. Parking lots are checked routinely by the SRO and administration. Students who apply for parking must obtain their hang tag before driving to school the first time.
