Operating as usual

A wonderful first outing of 2021 for these 2 today. In spite of rainy weather they each gave 2 lovely steady tests with well behaved horses. Aime and Oliver Twist earned a 59.14% in training 3 and a 60% in first 2 - to earn them a 3rd place. Mary Pat and Wicked Weather ( better known as Moochie) earned a 64.31% in first 1 and a 64.43% in first 2 which was the blue ribbon score! Each overcoming obstacles they had been facing.

I’m very proud of both of you and your boys!

The indoor improvements are beautiful. As always Michele Wellman and By Chance Farm put on a stellar show at a stellar facility.

Not my best hand and arm position but Redstone and I are finally becoming a team!

Great progress today!! Our first trail ride. 🥰 #ottb. Now that Redstone is home and settled in I think things are going to progress smoothly. 🤞

All fenced in and ready to go! Let the training and lessons begin!
This is an exact standard dressage arena with sand footing. If you would like a safe quiet place to practice a test with an L grad, make choreography for a freestyle, have a lesson or come over for a new experience let me know.

Working on straightness

Sally helping Red understand keeping the shoulders straight in preparation for the right lead canter.

His left lead is very easy and prompt and he has a super counter canter! The right lead is great when he gets it but the transitions are still rough. Making progress all the time.

[02/24/21]   Cavaletti! Thank goodness for cavaletti! They help calm the savage beasts. Last night in my lesson Redstone was a little more up than I’ve been used to. We were put straight to work doing figures at the walk and then trot, vs just going large on the track, incorporating the poles as we went. Some were single, some double and one had 4 in a line. There were broken lines, straight lines and curved lines. It brought his attention back and helped him to balance and regulate his rhythm. Boy can this horse bend his hock joints! Having the mirrors to see really helps but I get so involved I forget to ask for videos.
I’ve always like ground pole work and cavaletti and use it to teach lengthening of stride, passage, etc but using it to get attention and focus in a distracted or nervous horse is an added benefit.
Can’t wait for Michele Wellman’s cavaletti day at By Chance Farm in April!

Redstone and I are coming along. Not quite a month in yet but he is progressing nicely. He loves to look at himself in the mirrors. Starting over with a new horse, an OTTB that would rather stand for selfies, has been quite an enlightening experience and a great refresher course in good basics.

Meet Redstone! The newest member of the Cool Breeze Team. He is a 7 yr old, 16.3 1/2 hand OTTB. He raced solid for 3 years, retiring sound December 2020. He officially became mine on 1/24/21. This will be an exciting journey for both of us, from successful racehorse to elegant dressage horse.

Happy New Year!!! 🥳🍾🎉🎊Wishing everyone, horseand human, a safe, happy and healthy 2021!

Congratulations to Andrea Morgan (my grandstudent) and Renee Cover (my student and Andrea’s main instructor) on an excellent outing at Blue Horse Farm today at the FADS show. Both earned scores of 75+% and 2nd places. It was Andrea and Jack’s first Dressage show ever and they did intro C. It was Renee and Tommy’s first go at first Level 2. [05/06/18]   Great schooling show today with Shari and Liam at Troup Run in Hampstead, MD. It was a little wet but well worth the drive. Their indoor is just lovely and the people are so friendly. Shari and Liam did a great job earning a 65+%!

[11/19/16]   Looking forward to another great day of lessons at Columbia Horse 🐴 Center on Dec 10. The people there are great and I love what they do for horses!

[10/04/16]   Working hard on judging dressage tests for NAWD! These virtual shows are so nice to do. What a great opportunity for riders of all levels, on any breed, in traditional dressage or western dressage.
Check out the North American Western dressage Association and join in the fun! 🐴

My view from C at the Maryland Dressage Association 's dressage show at the lovely Tranquility Manor Farm.

I am going to test to become a judge for Western Dressage. This is a good organization that wants to be like real classical dressage and I would like to help support its endeavor.

[08/28/15]   I just became a NAWD member!!!

[04/28/15]   I'd like to thank Nutramax and their products Cosequin and Calxequin for helping to keep my mare sound. She is 7 year old and is still barefoot. My farrier says she has great feet and doesn't need them. She travels beautifully and I attribute the health of her hooves to genetics with the support of Calxequin. Her joints are fluid and she has been on Cosequin since she was 3. If you want to keep your dressage horse in tip top shape I highly recommend these products.
