Appy Time for Learning

Appy Time For Learning generously donated 100 Valentine goodie bags to the kindergarten and first grade students at Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School. An additional fifteen bags were delivered to the PreK students at Carroll County Head Start. Everyone was reminded that we love them!

Life gets busy but we can’t forget to thank our supporters. Back in October of 2025………the GFWC Jr. Woman’s Club of Westminster organized a night of fun at their Monster Mash Party. Many dressed in costumes as they enjoyed a night of eating, dancing, and participating in a variety of fundraising activities. Patricia Mack-Preston is pictured with Vickie Kyle, a member of the Jr. Woman’s Club, as she presented a very generous check to Appy Time from the night’s proceeds. We are so thankful for their partnership in helping children growing up in underserved communities become better learners through technology.

Appy Time first graders are earning McDonald gift cards every other week. Each student receives a take home phonic book to practice. They must read the text with 100% accuracy to receive the incentive. Each week we see more confident readers!

A belated December 2025 post, Appy Time For Learning organized a day of coding to participate in the worldwide Hour of Code event. The students loved programming the robots and writing code on various apps. The day is one of the most fun and memorable of the school year.

Smiles were everywhere as we presented each student at Mary Ann Winterling Elementary, Carroll County Head Start, and the Westminster Family Shelter Christmas goodie bags and books. We are so thankful to the Prime Timers small group at Crossroads Community Church who donated Christmas goodie bags for the PreK class at Carroll County Head Start, and a generous pair of Appy Time volunteers who donated 150 gift bags for kindergartners and first graders at Mary Ann Winterling and the Westminster Family Shelter children. 😍

We are thankful to the staff at Carroll County Head Start for treating us to a holiday luncheon during our last day of volunteering for the 2025 year. We also presented the teachers with beautiful poinsettias. 🥰

Our students enjoyed a bag of Halloween and fall goodies. All staff members at Mary Ann Winterling and Westminster Head Start received a bag of chocolates. Children at the Westminster Family shelter also received treat bags. All of these acts of kindness remind them that we care and love them. We want to thank two of our very generous volunteers who made this a reality! 🥰

😃 Our generous partners from Hugs and Stitches (https://carrollcountyartscouncil.org/cultural-directory/hugs-and-stitches/) donated 125 sets of knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, and gloves for the primary grade students at Mary Ann Winterling Elementary. Since all students are walkers at the school, these will be a much-needed gift. ☃️

🤩 Appy Time For Learning was awarded a grant for a little library house from Little Free Library. The students at Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School will have additional opportunities to build their home libraries. A set of 200 free books accompanied the library. The most important way to become a good reader is to READ! 📚🍎
