It was Spirit Week on the second floor of Merritt Hall! Members of McDaniel College Graduate and Professional Studies and the Education Department donned their holiday sweaters and participated in a door decorating contest and a silent auction with proceeds to be donated to Home on the Hill. The Home on the Hill program supports students who experience food and/or housing insecurity by providing housing during college breaks, a food pantry, clothing, toiletries, and other necessities.
The college will be closed 11/24 - 11/26 so our campus community can enjoy time with their families. Wishing everyone a safe, healthy & happy Thanksgiving!
American Education Week celebrates our nation's public schools and McDaniel is proud of its longstanding partnership with Carroll County Public Schools!
This year, President Julia Jasken took the time to thank CCPS employees, many who are McDaniel alumni as well as current students in our Graduate & Professional Studies programs. President Jasken along with McDaniel College representatives and the Green Terror delivered boxes of cookies to all 41 Carroll County schools throughout the week to show our appreciation for their commitment to their students 🍪
We are celebrating American Education Week by delivering delicious cookies to the teachers and staff at our local Carroll County Schools. Today we delivered to Eldersburg Elementary and Century High School.

Last year, the pandemic prevented McDaniel's Graduate and Professional Studies division from presenting Kimberly Johnson, Westminster High School librarian and media specialist, the 2020 Joseph R. Bailer Award in person. This week we made it happen with a surprise visit and presentation of the award in front of Kim's peers, school leaders, and students. In lieu of the annual award banquet, a monetary donation was given to the school for Kim to use in the library to help extend her good work. Read more about the Bailer award and Kim's many accomplishments by clicking on the link below. We are so proud of Kim and the work she does each day to create exciting and innovative spaces and programs for learning. Today is National STEM Day. Check out what a local school is doing to celebrate STEM.
Check out the cool things that Clare Hoerl and her seventh and eighth-grade students are doing! Clare is the Art and STEAM teacher at St. John’s Elementary school and a graduate of McDaniel’s STEM Instructional Leader Post-Bachelor’s Certificate program. Her seventh and eighth-grade students surveyed, measured and plotted a 4-acre piece of land on a farm in Taneytown, MD to create field-art of their school mascot.
Join Clare and her students November 13 for drone photos and to add color to their masterpiece. These images will hopefully encourage NASA to arrange a downlink for these students with the astronauts aboard the International Space Station. For more information about our STEM Instructional Leader Post-bachelor’s certificate click here or register here to join our Virtual Open House on Wednesday, November 10 at 4:30 p.m. Great job Clare and the St. John's students. What a great example of STEAM in practice!
