This morning our middle schoolers talked about test anxiety. Slow controlled breathing was demonstrated and practiced with bubbles. The more controlled the breathing the better the bubbles!

Last week the Decatur and Glass classes learned about Sonia Sotomayor and her journey to the supreme court. They then had a stem challenge to see who could build the tallest tower of knowledge.

Shriver class is simulating the Singing Strike of 1912. Without direction or input from the teacher, students formed committees, made a slogan, and strike leaders emerged from the crowd. Fascinatingly, this is exactly what happened during the actual strike. The strike concludes on Monday. How will it end?

To round out St. Patrick's week students learned about Irish Dancing from Keirnan, who is the 8th ranked male Irish dancer under 14 in the southern USA. Here he is performing a Treble Reel.

Holiday Class used what they learned about the earth’s structure to construct buildings that could withstand an earthquake and a tsunami. Each team of students had access to the same materials and worked to design and refine their models.

This week in World Cultures the students learned about India and got to try naan, basmati rice, mango juice, sliced mangoes, butter sauce, coconut korma sauce, and tikka masala sauce. They loved that they were encouraged to eat with their fingers since that’s how they eat in India. Lots of new favorite foods were discovered!
