Check out what the Spanish for Native Speaker’s class is up to! They went to Carroll Springs School to share Hispanic culture! Students planned activities to share elements of culture – dancing, loteria game, trivia, day of the dead flowers, colors in Spanish, and country flags! The group working with preschoolers did play dough flags, dancing and singing typical Spanish children’s songs, and children’s games and toys traditional to Central America. Keep up the great work!!!

Students in Spanish for Native Speakers and AP Spanish went on the trip with Winters Mill and South Carroll to visit the Smithsonian National Museum of American History! They checked out the American Latino exhibit, which is going to become its own museum. Learn more here: https://latino.si.edu/

They also visited the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History! Students spent lunch exploring the sculpture park and other parks nearby.

The Westminster High School FFA thanks everyone who attended our awards banquet on May 13. It was a pleasure to host three Carroll County Commissioners (Vigliotti, Kiler, and Rothstein), the President of the Board of Education (Marsha Herbert), and the Assistant Supervisor of CTE (Ted McNett). Thanks to our FFA Alumni and FFA parents for the support as well.

Check out Ms. Carhart's class who created projects featuring several National Parks in honor of National Park Week! Students learned about the history of parks, fun facts, and more! They were able to teach other students and teachers what they learned and share the adventure.

WHS was lucky to host an event that featured Joachim Hecker, a German scientist who works to spread awareness about science to students around the world. He talked about how important STEAM is to incorporate into students' daily lessons. He performed many mini-experiments using the students and teachers as participants! One experiment used a stethoscope to one’s own voice through their head, and another experiment involved a student becoming a cyborg; half human half robot. He hooked the students up to electrodes and was able to connect it to a robot claw allowing the student to move it by moving only their arm. The students had, by far, a favorite experiment, which entailed students being hooked up to electrodes that had the ability to control their teachers’ arm movements! Thanks for visiting, Mr. Hecker!
