Congratulations to Cotton Creek 4th Grade students, Scarlett and Lyght Yankton-Martin, who were crowned the "2024-2025 Northern Colorado Intertribal Powwow Association Princesses". They represent the Oglala Lakota tribe and were selected based on many factors, one being how they conduct themselves at other powwows. This is the first time "twins" were awarded the honor. They accepted this honor with their whole family behind them and introduced themselves in their Lakota language. The Princess duties are to wear their Crowns and sashes and to be up front behind the Veterans during Grand Entry. Their parents will take them as many powwows as possible throughout Indian Country as representatives. We are so proud of you!

Congratulations to our Cotton Creek "Battle of the Books" team for their hard work last night. Between the 6 of them they read over 30 books- and over 1500 pages! They completed three hard fought "battles" and had amazing sportsmanship and teamwork. We are proud of you! Thank you to Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. Dowd and Ms. Terri for all the time you spent supporting our readers!

Cotton Creek 4th graders participated in a live "Wax Museum" representing important people from Colorado's history. Students spent weeks reviewing nonfiction texts and researching so that they could bring biographies to life! They kept in character all night and shared important information from their lives along with the impact they made on Colorado history.

Did you know that Cotton Creek Elementary has a Eco Hero's club? The Eco Heros Club engages in renewable energy activities, community clean up, composting and planting activities in and around our building that promote higher eco-consciousness. This week our students made worm composting jars for every classroom in the school. This compost will be used for planting in the Spring at CCE. Thank you to Jennifer Carpenter our sponsor and Stacy Lambright our District's Energy & Sustainability Manager for supporting our students with this project.

All Schools closed Friday March 15th.

On Friday, March 15, ALL schools & offices in the Five Star District will be CLOSED due to weather.

All scheduled activities in the school buildings for Friday are canceled and sporting events and practices are postponed.

Leap Day at Cotton Creek included an extra recess for an extra day in the month, frog races, jumping contests and permission to "leap" over doorways. A fun day for our students and staff!🐸🐸
