Struggling to get your kids out of the house on time? Help them build independence and strong executive function skills by creating a laminated chart with 5-7 tasks they need to complete before they are ready to leave the house in the morning. Hang this list at eye level in a central location.

Prompt them to “check what’s next on the list” instead of TELLING them what to do next.

They can check off each task with a dry erase marker as they go. You can also create a chart for the after school routine and the evening too. This is not a magic fix - it takes time to build this habit into a routine. Eventually they won’t need to rely on the list.

As your child gets older, you can modify this approach by printing out a checklist. Some of my older students prefer printing out multiple copies instead of laminating the list so they have a fresh list each day, marking off each task with a pen or marker.
