The Westfield High School Theatre Department is very excited to present our spring musical production of "SMILE" this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 20 - 22, @7:30 pm. The show features over 80 amazing student artists both onstage and backstage and it is going to be awesome!

"SMILE" is a hidden gem of a production by Broadway icons Howard Ashman and Marvin Hamlisch. "SMILE" takes you behind the scenes of the fictional 1985 California "Young American Miss" pageant. Set in sunny Santa Rosa, California, Smile explores the pressures and triumphs of competition through the eyes of 20 teenage contestants, including Robin Gibson and Doria Hudson, two young women who forge an unlikely friendship amidst the whirlwind of the pageant week. Meanwhile, Brenda DiCarlo Freelander, a former California "Young American Miss" herself (and the second runner-up at the national pageant) is now coordinating the event along with her husband Big Bob, an RV salesman. However, Brenda has never really come to terms with not winning her pageant and that loss continues to add even more backstage drama throughout the already chaotic week. As pressures mount and nerves fray, we find that everyone eventually learns that, when all else fails, it is always a great idea to simply SMILE and nod.

SMILE is an honest, unashamed look into the mirror of high school alliances, backstage beauty pageants and the American Dream of happily ever afters. For tickets and additional information, please go to WPSVPA.BookTix.com.

It’s that time of the year again! WHS Theatre is back and ready (almost) to share this awesome production with you!

SMILE is a Howard Ashman and Marvin Hamlisch collaboration from the mid 80s that is rarely produced but it is a terrific story that is super timely and has an outstanding score and a cast of 35 talented HS performers! Highly recommend!

The Westfield High School Theatre Department is totally psyched to present our spring musical production of "Heathers, the Musical: Teen Edition" this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 14 - 16 @7:30 pm. The show features over 80 amazing student artists both onstage and backstage and it is going to be awesome!

While it is a “dark comedy”, Heathers addresses myriad issues that our students still struggle with, including bullying, peer pressure, self acceptance and, for many kids, just trying to figure out who they truly are. It's a very honest, unashamed look into the mirror and reveals just how rough things can actually be in a high school.

So - Happy May!

It's that time of year again when we have a moment to breathe and reflect upon the past year and all of our moments in the woods. Or the Wings. Or the Park (depending on the year). And what a fantastic year it has been. All of the members of the WHS Theatre Department recognize from the very beginning of the year, our main objective is to produce the highest quality theatre productions we can and that ultimately, the true measurement of our success in that pursuit comes from our audience members and their response to the stories we share with them. And, based upon that criteria, this has been an incredible year!

However, we also invite outside organizations to view our work and provide feedback, (hopefully) constructive criticism, and (again - hopefully) recognition of moments of excellence when we have achieved our objectives.

So - it is with great pride and gratitude for the amazing work that these outstanding young artists have accomplished this year, I am honored to share with everyone the following recognitions and nominations. (Imagine a drumroll here...)

Just wanted to share a brief glimpse behind the scenes of the incredible work done by the cast and crew of "Sunday in the Park with George."

Bit by bit
Putting it together...
Piece by piece -
Only way to make a work of art.
Every moment makes a contribution,
Every little detail plays a part.
If you feel a sense of coalition,
Then you never really stand alone.
Putting it together -
That's what counts.

Congratulations to the entire WHS Theatre Department on your remarkable work of art. We all know "Art isn't easy" but it is the moments and memories created along the way that make all of the work well worth it.
