I was moved by the response given to this woman about her husbands journals.

The question of utility of the journals to help the husbands children understand their father and to potentially help resolve issues of potential pain or hurt made me think about my own journals.

Well maybe I shouldn't call them journals but I try to write everyday and each day I try to capture some new light refracted from the circumstances I live in.

The thought that someone might use my writings, Facebook comments or notes, to gain a better understanding of who I was or what I meant to them in life after my death I find disconcerting.

My Facebook comments are typically marked public because I intend for them to be read and hopefully commented upon or used to assist the reader in forming a position on the area being commented on in comment.

Whew!

Here is my concern.

I change my positions like some folks change their socks.

I don't know if you read your comments which we receive on their anniversary date but I do.

The magazine’s Ethicist columnist on when private papers should remain private, whether prospective tenants should be told of a violent death in their apartment and whether a loved one with dementia must be told truths she can’t remember.
