Westfield State alum Peter Laviolette ’86 just keeps leveling up, and now he’s the head coach of the LA Kings!

🏒 Laviolette’s journey started at Westfield State, where he was a four-year starter and wore the captain’s “C” from sophomore year through graduation. He dominated as an all-conference defenseman, leading the team in scoring as a senior and finishing 14th all-time with 43 goals and 44 assists. Can you believe that's only a fraction of his resume!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Professor Brian Steinberg, PhD. Professor Stienberg was a dedicated member of our campus community for 47 years, educating countless students in the political science department. From teaching courses like Comparative European Government, American Government, and Comparative Foreign Policy, Professor Steinberg truly inspired students through his commitment to learning.

Former students always recall his passion for teaching and mentorship, which encouraged their involvement in Model UN and political activism. As advisor for Model UN, Professor Steinberg always ensured students could attend conventions and supported Westfield State in taking home many Model UN awards during his tenure.

Our hearts go out to his family and friends at this time.

Westfield State alum Sean O'Connell has recently been promoted to President of Fidelity Bank! In addition to his new title, he will continue to serve as the Bank's Chief Lending Officer. Sean has built an impressive resume over the past few years.

Westfield State alum Steve Athas '73 was recently honored as a Hometown Hero! Known to many as "Coach" in the Springfield area, Steve thought he was reporting to Picknelly Field for a regular workday.

To his surprise, 75 people had gathered to honor him and celebrate his remarkable legacy, which earned him a street sign in 2024!
