For a student-athlete to be eligible to compete at a Division I or II schools, The NCAA must know more about their academic record and athletic background. For final amateurism certification, you will need your standardized test scores, high school transcripts, and your request for final amateurism certification.

When are college coaches able to contact you?
Families often ask "when can college coaches contact high school athletes?".In most sports in the NCAA, coaches can start contacting recruits either after their sophomore year of high school or after their junior year (check the recruiting rules for the exact date for your sport). NAIA has more relaxed rules, and coaches can generally contact athletes at any time. NAIA schools, however, tend to have smaller programs with smaller budgets, so they don't usually start recruiting as early as NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 schools.

Football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, women's lacrosse, women's basketball: No coach communication until September 1 of junior year.

In all other D1 sports, there is no coach communication until June 15 after sophomore year.

Women's ice hockey: No coach communication until January 1 of sophomore year.

When to submit test scores when applying to college?

Attention 12th - grade student-athletes class of 2022. College admissions testing is an important component of the college application process. Knowing when and when not to submit your SAT or ACT scores is essential to getting into your dream school.

The revolving door of changes brought on by COVID-19 has now reached colleges and universities that are not testing, using test blindness, requiring testing, or still requiring standardized testing for admission. What does that really mean and how can it have an impact on your admissions chances? It's crucial to know the difference.

Test-optional colleges allow students to decide whether to submit their SAT/ACT scores.

Even if test scores are submitted, test-blind colleges will not consider them.

Test-flexible colleges allow students to submit other test scores instead of the SAT/ACT, such as Advanced Placement scores, SAT Subject scores, and International Baccalaureate exam scores.

In addition, college policies differ from one to another. If you take the test, colleges that are test-optional still expect to receive your scores. Students from out-of-state and certain majors need scores from other colleges. To determine testing requirements, GPA, class rank, and test scores can also be combined.

Attention 12th - Grade Student-Athletes:

With financial aid season just around the corner, it's time to start planning now.

College sticker prices shock many families. Despite the high cost of tuition, room, and board, and fees, college financial aid can make higher education affordable.

Income and savings are only a few of the resources families utilize to pay for students' college expenses. In 2019-2020, grants, scholarships, and student loans covered 25 percent of college costs. Grants and scholarships are two types of college financial aid that do not require repayment, however, student loans must be repaid with interest.

It can be challenging to navigate the financial aid process when paying for college is complex. You can join My Readiness Coach to receive step-by-step guidance on the entire financial aid process. Last year, our high school seniors received an average of $19,000 before borrowing any student loans.

July 17th, 2021: The test is for the ACT, which is not offered in New York during this time.
The registration deadline is June 18, 2021.

As a high school senior it's important to understand how the NCAA determines a student-athlete's eligibility based on their academic preparedness and amateurism status. Academic eligibility is typically determined using a combination of your college admissions test scores, such as the SAT/ACT, high school coursework, and your GPA as calculated using what are called the “NCAA Core Courses.”
