Otterbein's Department of Education is committed to providing a teacher education program that integrates academics with practical experience.

Otterbein University offers programs to prepare teachers for Primary Education (Pre-K through grade 5), Middle Childhood (grades 4-9), and Secondary (adolescent/young adult, grades 7-12) settings. All our teacher candidates have many opportunities to work in diverse classrooms, with field experiences starting during your freshman year with your first education course. Our mission is to prepare outstanding teachers who can be responsive to the needs of students.

We were excited to welcome a large group of future educators from the Eastland - Fairfield Career & Technical Teacher Academy! The students joined Dr. Scheckelhoff's Elementary Literacy class, engaged in Dr. Dee's class demo, took a campus tour, and enjoyed a pizza lunch and conversing with some of our amazing current students!

Interested in getting classroom experience and making money? Consider being a substitute teacher with the ESC. The ESC will be in the Otterbein Education Department - Roush 430, on Wednesday, November 5, from 4:30 - 5:30 pm to discuss how to register as an ESC substitute teacher and answer students' questions.

Discovery Day at Otterbein was a beautiful fall Saturday and Dr. Diane Ross and seven current Education students were excited to welcome high school students and their families who are interested in Education! It was an amazing visit led by our student teacher leaders who shared their knowledge about the teacher licensure programs and campus life.

Otterbein Noyce Scholars attended the 2025 Noyce Summit in Washington DC. Laura Rodriguez, Middle Childhood Education Noyce Scholar, had this to say about the Summit -"So very thankful for this opportunity!
Learning new ways to change math education for all students. Exciting to be surrounded by others equally as driven to incite change in urban, rural, and indigenous areas.
Everyone deserves quality education!!"

Otterbein students in Dr. Allison McGrath's summer SYE course are volunteers at the PALS summer camp in Cleveland and are having a blast at Welcome Night! Students in the SYE class are also volunteering at the PALS camps in DC, NY, and San Francisco! The PALS mission is to create inclusive camp experiences for people with and without Down syndrome. The camps are volunteer-led and hosted at university campuses.
