Our mid-season mini-break ended last evening as our Lady Cats faced Marysville and Thomas Worthington. We came away with one victory and one loss which brings our dual/tri record to 7-5 this season. This coming week we have three matches and one of those is our last scheduled OCC date. At the moment of writing this email, the weather report is calling for a 40% chance of rain. Please help our Lady Cats to remember to bring their rain gear for Tuesday (and keep checking the weather report and cross fingers that weather clears). I would also like to encourage our Cats to arrive early in order to get some hitting at the range so they can hit the course warm and ready to play this coming week.
Monday - Off (we have a busy week - catch up on school work)
Tuesday 13th - OCC @ Blacklick GC - 10:00 AM tee time in 2nd wave with Westerville North and Central. We will leave South HS at 8:15 AM. Roster for the match [Alex, Audrey F., Ady, Audrey M, Sophia]
Wednesday 14th - Home versus Bishop Watterson and Big Walnut with 4:00 PM tee time - All WSHS lady's play
Thursday 15th - Home versus Worthington Kilbourne and Westerville North with 3:45 PM tee time - All WSHS lady's play
Friday 16th - Go Football Cats!
Sunday 18th - Sectional Drawing - I will be at the Sectional meeting which determines which of the 'four' sectional sites our Lady Cats will play in October [Note there is an additional site this year]. The four sites are Oakhaven, Blacklick, Westchester and Pickaway CC. There is some important information to pass along with regard to the Sectional Tourney.
1) The Iwanamaker App will be used for live scoring at all State tourney events. Since our lady's have been using the app we will be prepared for this. If anyone wishes to follow along you can access the event and purchase a single event to get live updates.
2) The OHSAA has decided to put a stroke limit of "12" in place for holes at Sectionals and Districts to keep pace of play going and not have any player struggle with a bad hole.
3) Admission - $8.00 - all tickets are purchased online at https://ohsaa.org/tickets. Children under 6 are free.
4) What happens if a golfer uses obscenities / swearing or throws a golf club?
A two-stroke penalty shall be assessed for unsporting conduct, without exception. There are no “warnings” to be given in this situation. If a fellow golfer or coach observes this type of behavior, then it needs to be reported to the Golf Rules Committee for that event for administration of the penalty. Review OHSAA golf regulation 1.9.
What happens if a golfer receives advice from anyone besides their one board-approved coach? What about a fellow teammate?
The golfer shall be assessed the general penalty if he / she receives advice from anyone other than the one board-approved coach. Teammates are not permitted to give advice verbally or electronically (i.e. text messages). If this occurs, the golfer receiving the advice shall be assessed the general penalty by the event’s Golf Rules Committee. There are no “warnings” to be given in this situation. Review OHSAA golf regulation 1.11
I will let everyone know what day and which site we will play at as soon as the meeting is over on Sunday Sept. 18th - Have a great Weekend!

Varsity Girls Golf Update
1. 2022 Golf Schedule – I have been busy putting together our Varsity schedule for next season. To date I have 18 of our allotted dates pre-scheduled. Note that the tee times for most dates are still not confirmed, but you can at least get an idea of where we are right now with the schedule, and teams that we will play. The OCC has replaced Royal American with Oakhaven GC (in Delaware) for next season. I think our lady’s will like this change. You will notice, also, that I changed our Invitational from the Watkins tourney to the Worthington Christian Invitational. This event will take place at Mill Creek GC in Ostrander. A much easier course to walk and see everyone. I also think this is a better course for our team to play.
2. Ohio Girls Golf Foundation (OGGF) – A few of you requested to be kept up to date about the OGGF spring clinics and information. I received communication from their director last week that they have updated their website and clinic schedule for 2022. You can find all pertinent information on their website at www.oggf.org. The spring golf clinics begin in April, and we have a location here in Central Ohio (The Golf Club of Dublin) that is offering golf clinics. The clinics are taught by PGA and LPGA professionals, and target all levels of experience with a cost of $20 per session. The OGGF also holds a Golf Showcase event at Avon Oaks CC (Avon, OH). If we have anyone interested in playing as an individual or as a team we can discuss at a later time. The event is scheduled for Monday July 25, 2022. Additionally, there are Financial Aid and Scholarship forms for 2022 available on their website for families interested in these opportunities.
3. New Golfers – Westerville South held its move up night on Monday Jan. 24, and I met with two potential new golfers for our program. Additionally, if anyone knows of someone who is considering joining our program please let me know who they are so I can reach out and talk about the Varsity golf program and team.
4. Off Season Hitting – As our calendar moves toward February, I will reach out to our seniors to determine off season hitting at the Westerville Golf Center. We normally do not start this until the Winter sports season ends. We get together a couple times a month to hit and remember our swing. It is also a good time to invite our new golfers to meet the team and hit without golf course pressure.
5. Golf Course Raffle – Our annual fundraiser will begin in the spring after we acquire the golf passes. More information to follow in coming months
6. Coach Emma – Coach Emma has decided not to coach this coming season as she will be preparing for a wedding and teaching in Fredericktown. She will still be in touch but does not feel that she can commit to a full season.
Ohio Girls Golf Foundation – Encourage, sponsor and support the game of golf for girls.
The mission of the OGGF is to encourage, sponsor and support the game of golf for girls by providing college scholarships, golf training programs and financial assistance to attend designated golf tournaments.

We are entering the last few weeks of the season. It is always amazing how fast our season goes every year. Last evening our Lady Cats picked up a victory against Worthington Kilbourne, and played a close match versus Thomas Worthington. On Sunday, the Central districts coaches will hold their Sectional draw meeting to determine where each team will play and be seeded. The Central District has three sectional locations (Blacklick GC, Royal American, Raymond Memorial). Please note that the OHSAA charges $8.00 for all spectators at the state golf tournaments. All tickets are purchased online (https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets) and according to the information I am reading will be available no later than 5 days before the Sectional. Courses will also rent golf carts for those wishing to ride [please note with around 13 teams at each site there will be many carts rented] Also note that all rules and regulations are managed and enforced by OHSAA officials including the talking to golfer rule. The coach is the only person allowed to speak to the golfers, and I have seen players disqualified who speak to their family members - argh!
This coming week we will play Royal American twice but as the visiting team both times.
Monday - Practice @ Westerville Golf Center - 4:00 PM
Tuesday - Westerville North @ Royal American - 3:45 PM
Wednesday - Westerville Central @ Royal American - 3:30 PM
Thursday - Off

First I would like to congratulate the team on the big win against Dublin Scioto on Wednesday. The team posted the lowest score (211) of the season with three of our young ladies posting season best scores. Way to go Cats! Another congratulation goes out to Alexzandria Stewart who will receive Honorable Mention (3rd team) OCC Buckeye Conference Honors this season. This is based on her scores at the OCC matches throughout the season. Way to go!
Positive vibes going out to Audrey Faulkner who is taking her driving test - I believe - today!
We are moving into the stretch drive of our season with three more weeks of regular season matches. This coming week we play three times at Royal American and host each match - home team. Lastly, the Division 1 teams will hold their sectional draw this weekend. This means I will be able to let everyone know what course and tee times we will have for our Sectional that is scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 5th.
Monday Sept. 13 - Off
Tuesday Sept. 14 - Big Walnut - 3 PM tee [note TWHS is playing make up OCC this day and will not attend]

Thursday Sept. 16 - W. Kilbourne - 3:00 PM
Friday Sept. 17 - Off

A great week for our Lady Wildcat golfers this past week. We picked up a few victories while playing at Worthington Hills CC, and greatly improved our team score at the last OCC match. This was coupled with a scramble blocking our start time on Monday and getting stranded at Raymond Memorial because of transportation issues on Wed. On the bright side, the weather was awesome this past week. Yesterday evening our team posted their best 9-hole score of the season (238). Way to Go Ladies!
For this coming week we play twice and I am trying to secure a practice at Top Golf per the team's request for Thursday. Remember that we have Labor Day this Monday - hopefully everyone gets to enjoy some family time, rest and relaxation. Coach Emma is back next week and she is looking forward to getting back to working with the team.
Monday - Labor Day
Tuesday - OCC @ Blacklick Woods - First tee is 9:00 AM. We will leave South at 7:30 AM in the van (confirmed by AD)(1/2 hour drive time)
Wednesday - Dublin Scioto @ Rolling Meadows GC (Marysville) - 4:00 PM. We will leave South HS at 3:00 PM (1/2 hour drive time)

Good Day Everyone!
Hard to believe but we enter our 4th week of the season next week. Time does fly in the golf season. Our lady golfers are improving each and every day. I am very proud of their efforts especially this past Tuesday where we got drenched for the entire round and posted some great scores for our team. The Lady Wildcats did place 5th out of 6 teams with Westerville Central not posting a score. This year for the first time the entire OCC (Ohio Capital Conference) - 26 teams are using Baumspage to post scores. Using the following link to access the webpage and view scores of all four divisions throughout the season:
https://www.baumspage.com/golf/ohiocapitalconf/girls/buckeye/2021
Please note that two of the OCC divisions were rained out completely so they do not have scores posted yet.
Saturday August 21 is WSHS Team picture day in the new gym. Girls Golf is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Please arrive a half hour early in case pictures are moving quickly. We typically wear our red polos and black bottoms for the team photo. We will get the picture forms for ordering to you that day - sorry for that. The forms were not in my mailbox as of yesterday.
This coming week we play twice - one OCC and one dual match. South will be in the second wave of teams teeing off for the OCC at 8:45 AM with Olentangy Orange and Westerville North. Our dual match will be at Blacklick GC in Reynoldsburg against Watterson HS.
Monday Aug. 23 - Practice at Golf Center 4:30 PM
Tuesday Aug. 24 - OCC at Royal American 8:45 AM (leave South HS at 7:30 AM)
Wednesday Aug. 25 - Off
Thursday Aug. 26 - 4:00 PM @ Watterson HS - Blacklick GC (leave South at 2:50 PM)
Friday Aug. 27 - Off
See everyone on Saturday!
