This athletes’s road to IRONMAN 70.3 Northern California was definitely not perfect.
Back in early June, she started dealing with plantar fasciitis, and running became pretty limited. Not exactly what you want to happen a couple months before a 70.3.
But we didn’t panic.
We kept swimming. We kept biking. We kept strength training. We ran when her foot allowed it, backed off when it didn’t, and kept finding ways to move forward.
Going into race week, she was nervous. She had doubts about whether she had done enough. She was worried about the bike cutoff. She wasn’t completely sure she could pull this thing off.
I was. I was sure she could 🙏🏻
I knew the fitness was there. I knew how much work she had put in, even if the build didn’t look exactly like we originally planned.
And then she went out there and proved it to herself.
She finished her 70.3 and had a GREAT race, not even CLOSE to the cutoffs.
Then I woke up to this message in our team chat the next day.
Messages like this humble me as a coach. There’s a lot that goes into coaching an athlete, but helping someone keep believing, keep showing up, and eventually accomplish something they weren’t sure they could do…
That’s the good stuff.
Proud of you, girl 👏
Keep training. Keep adapting. Keep moving forward.
