As a Superintendent, you do not always get the opportunity to watch the same group of students you came in with as kindergarteners walk across the stage at 8th-grade graduation. But here we are with the Class of 2026, a group I first met in August of 2017. It has been incredible to watch them grow over the years, not just academically, but as people. I’ve watched them become a group that genuinely cares for one another, supports one another, and knows how to push through challenges together. We lived through difficult moments, including the pandemic, and if there was ever a class that was not meant to be separated, it was this one.
As they head into high school, my message to them is simple. Do not settle and do not wait for things to happen. They have more control than they realize over their effort, their choices, and ultimately their future. Mistakes will happen, but this group is ready to own them, learn from them, and keep moving forward.

Good morning,
As we move through this week, I am asking our families to join me in recognizing the incredible work of our staff. Our teachers and staff show up every day for your children. They support students, connect with families, and take care of one another in ways that are not always seen in the moment but make a lasting difference. This work is demanding, and it matters more than can ever fully be measured.
I also want to thank our WPTC, Board of Education, and families for the thoughtful gestures this week. Your support and recognition mean a great deal to our staff and reflect the strength of this community. If you have the opportunity, please take a moment this week to reach out, send a note, or share a kind word. It goes a long way.
Thank you for your continued support.
Philip Salemi, Ed.D

We had the chance to welcome Speaker of the House Chris Welch to our school today. What mattered most was watching our students in action. They asked great questions, stayed engaged, and represented themselves well. Moments like this help students see how what they’re learning actually applies beyond the classroom. Proud of our 8th graders for how they showed up today. Thankful for Speaker Welch for taking time out of his busy schedule to be here.

Our 7th graders are on their way to Springfield to visit the Illinois State Capitol and other historic sites. This is a real learning experience, seeing how government actually works beyond the classroom. Appreciate our staff for making it happen. Wishing everyone safe travels today.

Members of the Westchester Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society served over 50 households last night! During client service, they made sure each family received frozen meat, fresh produce, pantry staples, baked goods, eggs, baking supplies, personal hygiene items, beverages, deli items, and more. We appreciate their service! 👏🛒😊
