Highlands Digital News The Highlands Digital News is a bilingual broadcast by middle school students for the school community. It is directed and edited by Ms.

Evelyn Alicea-Santiago, an ESOL teacher and former instructional technology specialist in her school district. We started this project in 2009, when we received a mini-grant to create a bilingual newscast of current events in our school. Since then we have grown to 3 broadcasts each year! The students are very engaged in every aspect of this project and acted as scriptwriter, newscasters, actors, and reporters. This year, we have members of our ESOL Department, our Student Organization, and special needs students working on our team!

Here is our end-of-year broadcast. Thanks again to Jorge Ramos and Telemundo 47 for granting us access to their studios and an interview! Special thanks to Megan Maldonado for being a great hostess!

I still have to add our 'Highlands Through the Years' video collage at the end, and we'll release that and the Spanish edition shortly. Thank you, everyone, for your support!

On June 5th, the 8th graders enjoyed their annual dance. It was a huge success. The Highlands Digital News Team was there to capture the moment at the red carpet. I am so proud of my team! - Mrs. Santiago
