The Bridging Over to Right Opportunities (BORO) Program is the adult transition program of the Westborough Public Schools. Serving students ages 18-22 with disabilities who continue to be eligible for educational services and support, The BORO Program provides highly individualized educational programming delivered in a community setting and focusing on the development of the following skills for

a successful passage into adulthood. The BORO Program also accepts tuition students from out-of-district. Adult Daily Living��
Students learn to maximize their independence through the development of skills for self-advocacy, socializing, communication, community access and engagement, travel training and personal safety, leisure skills, and other fundamental daily living activities. Functional Academics
Provided in a community-based setting to promote students’ engagement in their home environment, our individualized instruction targets the development of the academic and functional skills needed to access college coursework, integrate into work or volunteer opportunities, and navigate the various aspects of adult daily living. Vocational Skills Development
Students receive fundamental, transferable employment skill instruction provided within our onsite retail business: The BORO Sugar Shack candy store. Individualized job-coaching and job development target the advancement of work-related skills in the areas of communication, task performance, workplace safety and culture, financial literacy, and travel training to promote access and engagement in volunteer, internship, or employment settings.�

“Be Sweet, Give Sweets, Impact Lives” The BORO Sugar Shack candy store is a student-centered, entrepreneurial venture that offers sweet selections packaged by students of The BORO Program. This unique vocational “learning lab” allows students to develop their skills, maximize their individual potential, and share their talents in the heart of their home community. Transition Assessments & Services
Students benefit from access to a comprehensive selection of assessments designed to assist the IEP Team in identifying the student’s strengths and areas of need to ensure well defined and meaningful IEP development, support, and transition related programming. Post-22 Planning
The BORO Program offers individualized support to students and/or guardians by establishing contact and access to the various adult service state agencies, resources, and/or college campus resources in order for support and services to be accessed after completion of educational services.

Off to the Career Explorations Fair in Webster!

Our students spent this morning networking with representatives from MAPFRE Insurance and other employers from a variety of industries throughout Central MA. They learned about the types of employment opportunities at each workplace and explored which jobs match their personal skills and interests.

Caregivers of loved ones with autism are invited to come connect, share experiences, and recharge in a supportive space. We’ll be joined by Lisa Collins and Sue Valente from the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, who will briefly highlight helpful resources for families.

In the same area, a therapy dog with handler will be available, along with a quiet activity area supported by volunteers to provide a calm, welcoming environment.
