Join us for a beading workshop with Katie Longboat! (.beadwork) Bring your creativity and create a beaded pin! π¨π«

Katie Longboat is a Cree and Mohawk beadwork artist from Six Nations of the Grand River. Her beadwork incorporates floral designs, contemporary materials and bold colours to create unique jewelry pieces and beaded artwork. Katie is inspired to create work that is reflective of her family and background, the natural world, and draws inspiration from both Cree and Mohawk styles of beadwork. Katie currently resides in Toronto, Ontario.
All skill levels welcome!
Drop-In, no registration required. Refreshments will be provided.

James Carpenter is a recognized Indigenous Traditional Healer and Oshkabewis (Helper). His First Nations Ancestry is from the Anishnaabek/Mississauga First Nation of Alderville, Chippewa ancestry from the Traditional territory around the Great Lakes, Oneida ancestry from Upper New York St Cree Nation from the shores of James Bay. He continues to reclaim his Anishnaabek/Chipewyan and Cree languages.
James specializes in providing Indigenous Traditional Healing Services and Sacred Indigenous Ceremonies to children, families, and communities.

πͺ‘ Our Creations Are Deadly - Ribbon Skirt & Shirt Making Workshop
Join us for a three-session Ribbon Skirt & Shirt Making Workshop with Dehmin Cleland in the ISC!
Dehmin will be supporting Indigenous OCAD U students in the making of ribbon skirts and ribbon shirts! No sewing experience is required, and materials and supplies are free!
This program is open to current Indigenous OCAD U students.

Dehmin Osawamick Cleland, Ojibwe and Odawa from the Wikwemikong reserve of Manitoulin Island currently residing on Tkaronto. A true testament to her dedication, Dehmin commenced her artistic journey at the tender age of six, diligently crafting her own regalia pieces. Through steadfast commitment, she has honed her skills in sewing and beadwork, which remain integral to her artistic expression. Central to her creative endeavors are intricate floral designs and meticulously crafted beadwork, echoing the heritage and wisdom of the Anishnaabek (all Indigenous Nations).

π¨ Join us for the return of Open Critique in the ISC!
We will be joined by Susan Blight (Delaney Chair in the Indigenous Visual Culture program and Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Arts & Science at OCADU), and Sierra da Silva-Canadien (Coordinator, Indigenous Admissions & Recruitment Support at OCADU).
Open Critique provides Indigenous students, alumni, and community members with the opportunity for dialogue, feedback, and relationship building with other Indigenous artists, including OCAD U faculty, alumni, and special guests. Participants are encouraged to share their ideas, current works, and to visit with other Indigenous artists.
Prospective students are encouraged to join us to receive feedback on their portfolio before the OCADU admissions portfolio deadline on February 10th!

βοΈ ISC Holiday Hours βοΈ
ISC staff will be in-office from December 10 - 13, 9am - 5pm.
From December 16 - 20, the staff will be working remotely, and Indigenous OCADU students can still access the ISC via key card access and connect with our team virtually.
University-wide closure from December 21 to January 5, our team will be offline for the holiday break.
We will return to the office on Monday, January 6, 2025!
