The Loran Scholars Foundation builds meaningful, positive change across Canada and beyond by empowering young people to create a better future. Loran looks beyond grades to identify promising young people with character—those with curiosity and courage to push boundaries and challenge the status quo; those who look beyond themselves and commit to service to improve lives; and those who demonstrate intrinsic leadership potential. Loran Scholars benefit from a four-year, comprehensive leadership-enrichment program, financial support, and a lifelong network of values-driven peers and mentors—unlike anything else offered in this country. Are you a student interested in learning more about Canada’s most significant and valuable undergraduate award? Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 30 ET to hear firsthand from Loran Scholars Vincent Wong and Emma Harris.

Emma Harris is a 2021 McCall MacBain Loran Scholar from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She studied environmental engineering at the University of British Columbia and is currently working as an Industrial Systems Engineer-in-Training for Efficiency Manitoba.

Vincent Wong is a 2021 Scace Loran Scholar from Vancouver, British Columbia, and completed a BSc in Neuroscience at McGill University. He is currently pursuing graduate studies in epidemiology and health service improvement at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.

Are you an educator or someone who works with youth? Join us on Monday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 pm ET to learn how to identify and support students applying for the Loran Award. During this webinar, you'll hear from Loran staff and alumni.

Dhanishta is a 2020 Loran Scholar from Fredericton, NB. She studied at McGill University in Montreal, where she completed her BSc in Honours Psychology. Dhanishta graduated from McGill in 2024 and is now pursuing her PhD in Clinical Psychology, focused on women's brain health, at the University of New Brunswick.

Connor Watrych is a 2020 Applebanks Loran Scholar from Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Connor studied Finance at the University of Alberta before moving to Calgary, where he now works as an investment banker advising natural resource companies primarily focused on the critical minerals space.

This past weekend, more than 100 scholars and alumni gathered for the Loran Community Day in 15 cities across Canada, the UK, and the US. These gatherings are a chance for scholars and alumni to come together, catch up and share what they are doing, motivating and encouraging each other to broaden and deepen their pursuit of making positive change.

Le week-end dernier, plus de 100 boursier·ère·s et ancien·ne·s de Loran se sont rassemblé·e·s à l’occasion de la Journée de la communauté Loran dans 15 villes au Canada, au Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis. Vous enseignez ou vous travaillez auprès d’étudiant·e·s? Joignez-vous à nous le lundi 21 septembre 2026 à 13 h HE pour apprendre comment repérer les élèves que vous aimeriez encourager à soumettre une candidature à la Bourse Loran.

Au cours de ce webinaire, vous entendrez Rayene Bouzitoun (2018). Rayene a étudié le développement international et la mondialisation ainsi que le droit civil (LL. B.) à l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle est également titulaire d’un doctorat en droit (LL. D.) de l’Université de Montréal, ainsi que d’une maîtrise en politique publique et d’une maîtrise en droit et finances de l’Université d’Oxford, où elle était Boursière Rhodes. Elle possède de l’expérience dans les domaines du droit, des politiques publiques et du développement international au Canada et à l’étranger. Rayene parle aussi couramment le français et l’anglais.

Are you an educator assisting students in your community with their 2027 Loran Award application? Consider attending a webinar to hear Loran Scholars share firsthand experiences and advice about the application process.

Kevin Wang ('21) grew up in Vancouver, BC, and graduated from the University of Toronto in 2025 with a degree in Economics and Mathematics. He currently works as a predoctoral research fellow at Stanford University, studying policy questions ranging from school cell phone bans to renewable energy markets.

Gurnoor Minhas ('19) grew up in Brampton, ON, and graduated from the University of British Columbia, where she studied Finance alongside a minor in Asian Studies focused on Punjabi language and culture. After spending the last few years working in investment banking and private equity in Los Angeles, she recently relocated back home to Vancouver to join Hiive, where she focuses on VC secondaries.
