๐Hands-on learning in action!๐
Our second-year OTD students spent the afternoon at Athene North Shore Recreation Area at Easter Lake in Des Moines exploring inclusive play spaces and adaptive leisure. From experiencing universal design principles firsthand to engaging with accessible equipment and applying knowledge through case studies, the day was an impactful learning experience.
A big thank you to Devon Boes for leading the lab and sharing her OT expertise in outdoor rec

Our OTD students are beginning a multiโweek journey in adaptive design as we 3Dโprint and assemble a toddler mobility trainer from the ground up. There will be trial runs, reprints, sanding sessions, teamwork, and plenty of โlook what we just madeโ moments along the way. ๐
Canโt wait to share the progress as this mobility trainer comes to life. A special thanks to Easter Seals for providing this opportunity to our students! ๐

โจ Student Spotlight! โจ
We asked students to answer a few questions about their journey to OT, their time at DMU, and any advice they have for incoming students. Meet Paige Richard, third-year OTD student:
Q: Do you have any advice for incoming students?
A: Be kind to yourself and donโt compare yourself to others! OT school is tough but so incredibly rewarding, so excited for you to begin your journey!!
Q: Proudest moment as an OT student?
A: Completing my first session in my pediatrics fieldwork rotation!! It was amazing to apply all the things Iโve learned in courses with hands on experience in the clinic.
Thanks Paige! ๐
