Dowling Catholic FFA and Agricultural Education

Huge thank you to Valentine Food Company for hosting our Food Science students today! It’s great to see the information learned in class being used in life!

Plant Science is in our Urban Ag unit, which comes with floral design! Students were tasked with creating their version of a color wheel, and some couldn’t have been better!

The 98th State Convention brought together over 5,000 FFA members from across the state.
Izzy and Alivia represented Dowling while delegating. Annamaria performed in the FFA band. Special congrats to Gwen for completing in job interview and earning a bronze, finishing in the top 12 in the state, an incredible achievement! Lastly; Margo, Lexi, and Issac, completed in chapter and Greenhand quiz. We are so proud of the effort and dedication our members put in this week.

Food Science is getting EGG-citing! Students were able to complete an egg dissection to wrap up our egg production section of the Farm to Table unit. Thank You Mr. Shay for providing us eggs!

This week Vet Science students got to experience real world applications from class. We’ve been working on reproduction systems and what better way to learn than visiting Hawkeye Breeders!

Our FFA Career Night was a success!! Thank you to everyone who attended on Thursday and helped make the night so impactful.
From hearing real-world experiences to exploring different career paths, it was an evening full of opportunity and growth. We appreciate all the support from our community!

DCHS showing up strong at the Iowa Youth Institute! 🌱 9 students represented us this year, continuing a strong legacy with participation in 13 of the past 15 years. So proud of their hard work and passion for making a difference.

Huge Thank You to Corteva Agriscience for the amazing tour! Students were able to connect with what we’ve done in class to real world applications. We were able to visit the Mendel Greenhouse Complex, Franklin Building, and the Genotyping Lab. Overall, a very successful day!

Students were able to get up close and personal with a Ruminant Digestive System! A great way for students to see the differences between each compartment of the stomach.
