Plan ahead for the start of the school year! Traffic patterns have changed and detours are in place. Our school parking lot will follow a one-way only traffic flow. You must enter from 16th street and exit onto Grand during all school drop off and pick up times. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this construction project! π§
Road Closure at 16th and Grand Avenue impacting the entrance to Sacred Heart! Please be advised of the new traffic pattern until November 2026.
Currently, the City of West Des Moines has:
- closed all entrances off of Grand Avenue. They will remain so while they work on the utilities and sidewalks.
- kept the exit onto Grand Avenue open, but NO left turns.
- closed the south entrance to the north parking lot.
- a detour on Grand advising driver's to use 14th St to Mountain Ave to gain entry into the church (and clinic).

PLEASE NOTE:
- You cannot enter the parish directly off of Grand Avenue.
- The exit onto Grand is clearly marked 'DO NOT ENTER.' Do not use the Grand exit as an entrance.
- During school drop off and pick up. Parents can only enter off of 16th Street and exit onto Grand. (This is the normal procedure, but all other traffic options are literally blocked.)
- During low traffic times the 16th Street access can be used as an entrance and exit.
- The only way to get into Sacred Heart Parish is on 16th Street.
