The Automotive Technology Program at Mercer County Community College is an A.A.S. degree program that educates students in all aspects of automotive technology. The college offers three concentrations of study for you to choose from: The Mopar Career Automotive Program (MCAP), Subaru University (Subaru-U), and the Comprehensive Automotive Program. MCAP focuses on specific technologies used in Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) vehicles. Graduates of the Program typically move right into full-time employment at a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, or Fiat dealership. Subaru-U is sponsored by Subaru of America and trains student in technologies used in Subaru vehicles. Graduates typically move into full-time employment at a Subaru dealership after graduation. Students in the Comprehensive Automotive Program follow a learning path similar to MCAP and Subaru-U, except the focus of study can center on any other vehicle manufacturer outside of FCA and Subaru. Many Comprehensive students complete internship requirements at area new car dealerships, franchise facilities, or independent automotive repair businesses. The relationships between the students and their internship facilities that are built during the duration of the program, help make the transition from college to full-time employment easy. Automotive theory is learned in the classroom and automotive lab, while real-life repair experience is gained during the required internships. The internship component of the automotive program exposes each student to a learning environment like no other, while allowing the students to earn money while they learn the trade. Most of the popular automotive schools that you see advertised on TV and the internet charge 30 to 50 thousand dollars for a certificate of completion, not a college degree like at Mercer. They also do not include internships, which reduces your hands-on learning experiences and can make it difficult to find and keep a good job. Want to learn more? Send us an email!
