Orchard Families,
Below is an email from the Granite School District about Tuesday night's board meeting. They will meet again on December 10 for a public hearing and make the final vote that night. Currently, they are looking to close and move students to Whittier and Copper Hills. Also, all students will go to Cyprus High. Please let me know if you have any questions about that.

The application for Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade students who want to attend a Granite School District school other than the student's residence boundary school will open on November 15, 2024, at 8:00 am. Below is the link to the online application.

Dear Granite District Families,
Last night the Granite School District Board of Education held a public hearing on the 3500 South Study Corridor. The board approved a first reading to accept the Population Analysis Committee (PAC) recommendations at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year (the end of this current school year). The board must approve a second reading at the December 10th meeting for the decision to be final.
CLOSURES
• Orchard Elementary to close with boundary adjustments to Copper Hills and Whittier Elementary schools.
• Redwood Elementary to close with boundary adjustments to Granger, Stansbury, and Wilson Elementary schools.
• Valley Crest Elementary to close to traditional students with boundary adjustments to Armstrong and Monroe Elementary schools.
DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION
• Opening of a DLI Spanish Magnet School at the current Valley Crest campus.
• The DLI programs at Hillsdale and Monroe will be discontinued as a result of the above changes.
OTHER BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS
• Portions of Pleasant Green Elementary to Lake Ridge Elementary.
• Portions of Redwood and Walker to Lincoln and Wilson Elementary schools.
Secondary boundary changes include:
• portions of West Lake Junior / Granger High to Hunter Junior / Hunter High School.
• portions of Granite Park Junior to Valley Junior.
• The area of Orchard Elementary that would now be boundaried to Whittier Elementary would become a junior high feeder to Hunter Junior High. This same area would be boundaried for Cyprus High School.

We’ve held several open houses and information sessions, and have received a lot of parental and community feedback in regards to the options. Per statute, we are required to hold two separate votes and hold two public hearings before the closures become official.
The next public hearing and vote will be held at our next general board meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The public is always welcome and invited to attend any board meeting. If you would like to speak during the public hearing, you may sign up that night at the meeting.

We are also looking for president. secretary, and treasurer nominations ( yes, you can nominate yourself!) We can't continue PTA without these positions. Come join us on the 24th if you'd like to see us in action.
