A fun event coming up this week.

We are proud to spotlight Braden Natter, Class of 1997, as a distinguished alumnus this Homecoming Week.

Braden attended Granger High School from 1993 to 1997. He loved his time at Granger and the acceptance of all students as well as the amazing community. He met some of his best friends at Granger and is still close with them today. While at Granger he was on the Academic All Region and All State baseball teams. He loved playing for Coach Folster and the relationships he made.

After graduating, he received an academic and baseball scholarship to Salt Lake Community College and went on to also play for College of Eastern Utah. He was also on the Junior College All-State baseball team. Braden finished up his education at Southern Utah University with a degree in finance. While at SUU, he met his wife through mutual friends from Granger High.

Currently, Braden is married with two children: a son who is 14 and daughter who is 12. He has worked as a mortgage loan officer for the past 20 years. In 2019 he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of esophageal cancer. He underwent several rounds of chemo and radiation as well as an esophagectomy. Unfortunately, in 2021 the cancer metastasized into his adrenal glands and lymph system. Along with more chemo and radiation he was given a new immunotherapy treatment. This treatment exceeded the doctors’ expectations and current scans are clean. Braden is doing well and working to not take any of the life he has been given for granted.

We are proud to spotlight Chuck Murillo, Class of 1983, as a distinguished alumnus this Homecoming Week.

Chuck attended Rolling Meadows Elementary and was there the first year it opened. He then attended Valley Junior High and Granger High. While at Granger, Chuck was on the golf team and went to state for tennis and welding. He joined the U.S. Navy while at Granger and went to boot camp in San Diego right after graduation. After boot camp, he continued his education by going to welding and firefighting school in Treasure Island, San Francisco. While in the Navy, Chuck visited Hawaii, Guam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and Bali. He also spent time in Kodiak, Alaska, and Rota, Spain. He spent two weeks on the oldest commissioned ship in the world, the USS Constitution (also known as Old Iron Sides). He served 24 years total: four years on active duty and 20 years in the reserves.

Chuck did some volunteer work as a Cub and Boy Scout leader for 7 years. While he was a Scout leader, he issued the first welding merit badge for his Scout district. He later became a teacher here at Granger High School in 2015 and has loved it ever since. Mr. Murillo says there is nothing like making a difference in a student's life. He has lived in West Valley for 53 years and plans on staying here and working at Granger until he retires. Once a Lancer, always a Lancer!

One more message about HoCo! Here's hoping the momentum from last week's big win over Hunter will carry the Lancers to victory over the Taylorsville Warriors! The game is Friday, Sept. 16; dance is Saturday, Sept. 17.
