It was the first in-person job fair for students since the pandemic began in March 2020.
"The goal is to get these students hired, get them working for a company, then actually put them in apprenticeship training programs," Steve C**a, the President and CEO of Associated Builders and Contractors of Florida's Gulf Coast said. "Then they can grow from an apprentice to a journeyman in their trade in a very short period of time."

The Build Tampa Bay Foundation was created to encourage high school students to explore career opportunities in construction-related fields, which will continue to see record demand in years to come. Build Tampa Bay’s annual trade show and job fair, which successfully connects students with local employers looking for new talent, was set to take place tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, but was cancelled due to coronavirus concerns.
Build Tampa Bay hosted a Press Conference Zoom Call to encourage our seniors looking for immediate employment in this high-demand industry to reach out to Build Tampa Bay for support and job prospects. Even as the economy faces uncertainty during a pandemic, the construction market was one of the only areas in the American economy to add jobs. School leaders believe connecting our talented learners with local construction businesses will not only help graduates find immediate jobs, but also help our local economy.
“I want to commend the Build Tampa Bay Foundation for providing our learners with the valuable tools they need to be career ready. Our students will gain world-class knowledge that will translate into high-demand careers, even during this unprecedented time in our community,” said Hillsborough Schools Superintendent Addison Davis.
Board Member Steve C**a, who is also Executive Officer with Build Tampa Bay, believes it is important to provide support to our next generation of leaders in order to be prepared with a high-demand job after graduation.
“Hillsborough Schools is cultivating a talented work force who will literally build the future of Tampa Bay. This monetary donation, and support through Build Tampa Bay, will go a long way to preparing our students for life, as well as fulfilling, high-paying careers,” said C**a.
