Parents- it's been a wonderful semester at JBU! We all have been encouraged by your students. They have been alive in their faith, caring of their studies, involved and very communal. As you will receive them back for holiday break, here are some encouraging discussion points to consider:
What were some memorable moments from the semester?
Who impacted you the most? How were your professors? What have you grown to appreciate about your roommate? How were the students? Was there an international student who impacted you? What kinds of activities did you participate in? How's the cafeteria been - any favorite stations?
What challenged you the most? How did you grow?
How has your faith been affirmed? Developed? Challenged? Have you found a local church? How was chapel? Are you considering a growth group (small group bible study)? https://www.jbu.edu/christian.../formation-initiatives/
What are you looking forward to for next semester? What area(s) of involvement are you considering? How might you make the most of your studies? Study habits? How did work study or job go? What are some professional development considerations for next semester? (see Career Development for career assessment, internships, getting resume ready). https://www.jbu.edu/career-development Consider a magazine subscription or professional development student membership in their area of professional interests as a welcome back gift (ie: Entrepreneurial Studies - Fast Company Magazine, American Marketing Association...)
Your student will want to catch up on sleep, eat their comfort "home" foods and get time with you! (Consider a coffee shop time without siblings)

Remember our 2020 & 2021 Grads....they are courageous! We can all attest to the challenge of the past year, even those of us with our jobs and our lives still intact. Can you imagine the courage it takes the new graduates to come through this past year and then to try and find a job, place to live, get connected? Reach out to these grads. Give them opportunity. Mentor them. Remember they are courageous and can handle the challenges before them.
