🐾 Please help us welcome our new staff for the 2026-2027 school year! 🐾
"Hello! My name is Emily Higley, and I am excited to be joining the high school special education team as the new ID special education teacher!

I grew up in Stratford, Wisconsin, and attended Winona State University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Developmental Cognitive Disabilities. I then earned my master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Specific Learning Disabilities from Concordia University, St. Paul. This will be my fifth year as a special education teacher, and I am excited to begin this next chapter in West Salem!

Over the summer, I got married to my now husband, and we are enjoying married life. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family, and friends and doing anything outdoors, including golfing, gardening, going for walks, and spending time on the water.

I am so excited and eager to join the West Salem School District! I am especially looking forward to being part of a district that is committed to its students, families, and community. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and join the Panther community!

Go Panthers!"
Welcome to West Salem, Emily!

Today, we pause to remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost in the terrorist attacks on our country twenty-five years ago on September 11, 2001. We also honor the extraordinary courage of the first responders, everyday citizens, service members, and passengers on Flight 93 who showed profound selflessness and ran toward danger. As a school community, we stand together in unity and gratitude, committed to the promise to never forget 🇺🇸.

Every year, our freshmen go to the school forest on the first day of school for team bonding and learning to work together in small groups. At the forest, they go through the ropes course to challenge themselves to learn to trust their peers while working together. It is a great way to kick off their high school careers and students always enjoy the opportunity to spend time with their classmates outside the normal classroom environment.

🐾 Please help us welcome our new staff for the 2026-2027 school year! 🐾

"Hello, my name is Amy Dye and I’m happy to be joining the Elementary team as a Special Education Paraprofessional. I have been a paraprofessional for the last seven years and a Kindergarten Aide for two years in the state of Kansas. I’m excited to build relationships with kids and watch their independence grow.

My husband and I recently moved back to the Onalaska/Holmen area from the Kansas City metro area this summer. He has been with BNSF for 25 years as a Locomotive Engineer. We have two kids, who have decided to stay in Kansas…at least for now ☺️. Our son is in the apprentice program to become a signal maintainer for BNSF, and our daughter is a sophomore at K-State University. We are huge soccer fans as we enjoy watching the Sporting Kansas City men’s team and the women’s team, KC Current (watch for them in Ted Lasso). I love to garden and do landscaping and I recently got back into doing Yoga! I’m excited to start this new chapter at West Salem Elementary!"
Welcome to West Salem, Amy!

We recently celebrated an exciting milestone in the progress of our capital referendum projects, the ribbon cutting ✂️ and opening of the new West Salem Elementary School gym!

After over a year of hard work 🔨, our staff, students, families, contractors and community members were present to help us open the new space. This space will allow more flexibility in scheduling, a quieter and calmer lunch room for students and expanded space for physical education classes, athletics, and community events.

We'd like to give a huge thank you to everyone that has helped to make this project a success, including our architect, ISG, our construction manager, Kraus-Anderson, all of our local contractors, our staff and students for being flexible during the construction, and our families and community members for your support throughout this process! 🐾
