Materials Spotlight: We start here with tracing — fingertip on sandpaper, feeling its shape while saying its sound. Our senses are lit up - touch, sight, and sound. It’s a small material with a big job: building the muscle memory and sound-recognition kids need before writing and reading begin. This wraps our materials spotlight during our break.

Materials Spotlight: Look closely, and a continent puzzle map is versatile. Matching each piece into its outline is a puzzle first — but repeat it enough, and children start learning the names and shapes of each country, and a child starts building an actual sense of the world’s geography. Later, those same pieces double as an early reading exercise, matching labels to shapes they already know through repetition. Some children work through it solo, determined to get every piece right. Others invite a friend over to help. Solo or with help, the map still comes together. 🧩 🗺️

Materials Spotlight: While we’re on break, we’re taking a closer look at a few of the materials that shape our classroom — starting with pouring work. It looks simple: water, a small pitcher, a steady hand. But this is where independence begins. Every spill is practice, every steady pour is a small victory in concentration and coordination — no adult stepping in required. Summer, summarized: dirt under fingernails, quiet concentration, and a lot of independent discovery — inside and out. This is our last week of summer programming before a short break, and we’re feeling grateful. To our staff: thank you for another season of patience, warmth, and showing up for the children each day. We’ll be back to begin fall on Tuesday, September 8th. Thank you all for a wonderful summer! 🌱
