We had a special visit from South Metro Fire this morning! The children had the opportunity to explore the fire truck, see the equipment firefighters use, and learn more about what happens when they respond to an emergency.

Firefighter Tony even put on his full gear and turned on his oxygen tank so the children could hear what it sounds like when a firefighter is wearing an air pack. Experiencing these sights and sounds in a calm, familiar setting helps children feel more prepared and confident if they ever encounter a firefighter in an emergency.

At Clover, we practice a fire drill every month, giving children and adults regular opportunities to practice safely evacuating our building. The firefighters also reminded us that fire safety is just as important at home: families should have a plan for leaving the house and choose a designated meeting place outside.

Thank you to the first responders for spending the morning with us and helping our community stay safe every day!

As we head into the weekend, we hope you'll take a moment to hear AMI Executive Director, Lynne Lawrence MBE, reflect on the purpose of education as an aid to life.

It's a thoughtful reminder of why Montessori's values and approach to education continue to inspire educators, families, and communities around the world.

It's a vision we're proud to live each day at Clover Montessori School as we guide children in becoming curious, capable, and compassionate members of their communities.

A few months ago, we shared the Addition Snake Game: an exploration of the many combinations that make ten. Now, the work continues.

After many experiences transforming the colorful snake into a golden one, the child is introduced to another presentation: a way to check her own work.

The colored bead bars that were previously replaced by golden ten bars are sorted and paired to equal ten alongside each gold ten bar. A 9 and a 1, an 8 and a 2, a 7 and a 3. As the child finishes pairing, the final quantity provides feedback. If there are still colored bead bars that could have been exchanged for a golden ten bar, or if there are more golden ten bars than the remaining combinations account for, the child discovers that there is more to explore within her work.

The materials are purposefully designed to offer control of error. Rather than an adult pointing out mistakes or providing the answer, the child is given opportunities to make mistakes, repeat and refine their understanding.

Toddlers are capable of so much more than is often imagined.

Snaps are hard! They require strength, dexterity, coordination, and patience. Watch closely and you'll see her confidently snap the frame, unsnap it, and snap it again, all through her own effort!

Children don't become capable someday. They are becoming capable right now.

Sometimes all they need is the time, the opportunity, and our trust.

From tiny hands matching objects to beginning readers labeling the world around them, Montessori language materials grow alongside the child.

In the Toddler Community, children continue building their vocabulary by matching familiar objects to picture cards. A wooden spoon matches a picture of a wooden spoon. An apple matches a picture of an apple. This simple yet profound work helps the child discover that a two-dimensional image can represent a real object in their world while fostering a love of language.

In Children's House, the work expands. Children are introduced to classified picture cards that offer rich language experiences beyond what can always be physically present in the classroom: from the parts of a bicycle to animals of different continents and the many types of vehicles we see in our city. Through three-period lessons and language games, children absorb, refine, and organize new vocabulary.

Later, these same familiar pictures become part of the child's reading journey. Separate labels are introduced, and the child begins reading and matching the words to the pictures they already know. Because the vocabulary and images are already familiar, the child can focus on the new challenge before them: reading.

Montessori education honors the natural progression of development. Before we invite a child to read a word, we first offer experiences, language, and understanding. Each stage thoughtfully prepares the child for the next, cultivating both confidence and delight in learning.

Meet Rosie the Monarch! Our newest friend led the children on a little adventure through the playground yesterday.

They followed her with curiosity and delight, reminding us that the unplanned moments are sometimes the most magical.

Here are a few moments of discovery, growing independence, friendship, and meaningful play. These small moments reflect the beauty of purposeful learning and childhood unfolding naturally.
Together, they tell the story of a day at Clover Montessori School.
We are grateful to witness these moments each day and to share a few of them with you.
It is within these ordinary moments that something extraordinary is taking place.
