Washington Unified School District 2015

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and hope everyone has an even better new year filled with happiness. We have had a lot of change in the District over the past few weeks. We elected a new Board president Adam Menke, Vice President , Alicia Cruz and Clerk, Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez with Mary Leland and Katie Villegas as trustees. We hope this brings about some much needed change. We also hired a new Director of Student Services, Jerry Smith as well as a Kimberly Harrison, Coordinator of Instructional Technology. Exciting times!

Every year school districts across the US (and all over the world) face budget issues - what do you think the district needs to spend money on? What areas are lacking? What if anything should we stop funding? We are starting to put money back into the arts which is a huge step in the right direction with the Board wanting to put almost 100 thousand dollars aside for it. We also have set aside funds for day care for teens with children who might not be able to come to school otherwise which is wonderful. Yet a lot of people have expressed concern about where money shouldn't be going some had issue with the Superintendent seeking a pay raise when he already makes close to two hundred thousand dollars a year, others didn't want to spend so much money on what they believed to be cosmetic construction work. We realize we cant please everyone but we do want to know what you think.

tell us what you love about WUSD?? What would you like to see changed?

A lot has happened at Washington Unified!! We have amazing test scores, the school year is off to a positive start and fall is finally here but there are some not so wonderful things happening in our district. Morale is at an all time low. Employees who have served diligently for 30 years are looking for new jobs or a way to retire. The current administration has created an atmosphere not of transparency but of fear and intimidation. Teachers and classified staff alike have started petitions to remove some of the lead figures at the main office. How do you feel about the current Superintendent? What about the staff, the everyday working people you come in direct contact with? if you have something beautiful to say please do and if you like so many others have something to say that is not so nice please do. We want to stop living in fear. We want to bring the childrens needs back to the forefront and get rid of the bullying office politics

We have begun our Superintendent's Budget Advisory Committee Meetings - I urge you all to attend (open to the public) We come together as employees and as a community and brainstorm and put forth where we would like cuts to be made - ideally we wouldn't have to make cuts but the State is giving us no choice - please come to the next meeting - Room 75 at the District Office - November 13th, 2012 - from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - I will do a reminder when we are closer to the date.

Hi - I am so sorry i haven't been posting (my grandmother passed away)

Sorry for the delay - so many new things to share. ;)(and in no particular order). We have selected a new Board Member normally this is something that West Sacramento citizens would decide however Sandra Vargas gave her notice and the time had past where we could get it on the ballot - so we interviewed and selected Liz Bagdazian! (Welcome;) She has been an active member or many groups in our city (she also played an integral part of River City Boosters).
We have also ironed out the wrinkles of our new web page - it should be up this week:

WELCOME BACK :) We would love to hear from everyone - we are off to a good start today (a few glitches but over all we are doing great) and hope this is going to be a fantastic year - we raised API scores over 21 points last year as a District and hope to do even better this year :)

We have a new Principal at Yolo Continuation School - Stan Mojsich he was the Assistant Principal at River City and we think he will be a great fit!

What would you like to see WUSD do? It can be anything from community night - more visual partnering with the City - different sections in our community news mailer. Please let me know!!
